Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Sam,

I am so happy to hare that you are applying in same course Bachelor of Arts. It is three years long course. This is very interesting course because it has verity of subjects such as English, Hindi, Punjabi and many more and I am sure you are enjoying it.

In a class we do many assignments and presentations through we learn and enjoy our study.

I am highly recommended this university because all the teachers are well experienced and always willing to help students. Apart from that, university organize seminars time to time which are helpful for future development, and they also do some extra circular activities.

If you want to get admission in the same university you can apply as soon as possible because the seats are limited and also take all your original certificate and passport size photos and other necessary documents.

I hope you can get admission and enjoy the course and write me if you need any help in application.

Best wishes,

Rupinder

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The letter covers all three bullet points required by the prompt. You provided details about the Bachelor of Arts course, explained why you recommend the university, and gave advice on the application process. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a friend. However, some ideas are slightly under-developed; for instance, the description of the course could be more specific to help your friend understand the workload or the nature of the assessments. Overall, the response is relevant and addresses the task requirements effectively.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The letter is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each focusing on one of the required points. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'Apart from that' and 'If you want to', which help the flow of the letter. However, the transition between sentences is sometimes a bit mechanical, and the use of linking words could be more varied to improve the natural progression of ideas. The paragraphing is appropriate, and the letter follows a standard structure for informal correspondence.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You have an adequate range of vocabulary to convey your message clearly. There are some minor errors in word choice, such as 'hare' instead of 'hear', 'verity' instead of 'variety', and 'extra circular' instead of 'extracurricular'. While these errors are noticeable, they do not impede communication. To reach a higher band, try to incorporate more precise academic or descriptive vocabulary related to university life, such as 'curriculum', 'extracurricular activities', or 'competitive admission process'.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'applying in same course' (should be 'for the same course'), 'It is three years long course' (should be 'a three-year course'), and 'I am highly recommended' (should be 'I highly recommend'). While these errors are frequent, they do not prevent the reader from understanding your meaning. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of articles and prepositions.
