Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Dhruv,
I hope you are doing well.
This mail is regarding the advice on choosing the same course as mine. As you already know that, I got enrolled in therapeutic recreation in the Alberta university. This course suits more to the physiotherapy students. The reason behind that is, the base of this course is human anatomy and physiology.
I would like to recommend you to get enroll in the same university as mine. The main reason is, practical sessions. Alberta provides practical classes, which enables you to have detailed practical knowledge. In addition, you may also request one on one practice, which helps you to solve all your problems from all the perspectives.
From past year, they launched their own website on the internet. Therefore, you may check all the requirements from online and you will get a reference pdf, which helps you in the through out process.
Thank you so much. I hope you get the admission in your desire university.
Best regards,
Riya

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
You have addressed all three bullet points required by the prompt: describing the course, recommending the university, and providing application advice. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a friend. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. For example, while you mention the course is related to physiotherapy, you could have elaborated more on the specific modules or your personal experience to make the advice more helpful. The explanation of the application process is also quite brief. To reach a higher band, ensure that each point is fully extended with more descriptive detail and personal insight.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter is organized into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow your points. You use some basic cohesive devices like 'In addition' and 'Therefore' to link ideas. However, the flow between sentences is sometimes a bit mechanical, and the transition between the course description and the recommendation could be smoother. The referencing is generally clear, though some phrasing, such as 'This mail is regarding...', is slightly unnatural for a personal letter. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring smoother transitions between paragraphs would enhance the overall coherence.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You have a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey your message clearly. You use some relevant terms like 'therapeutic recreation', 'anatomy', and 'physiology'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'get enroll' (should be 'enroll') and 'through out process' (should be 'throughout the process'). Additionally, 'desire university' should be 'desired university'. While these errors do not impede communication, they indicate a need for more precise control over word forms and common collocations to reach a higher band.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors, such as 'This course suits more to the physiotherapy students' (should be 'suits physiotherapy students'), 'get enroll' (should be 'enroll'), and 'check all the requirements from online' (should be 'check the requirements online'). There are also minor punctuation and article usage issues throughout the text. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of prepositions, as these errors occur frequently enough to be noticeable.
