Student answer (Band 7.0)

Dear Jesse,

I am writing this letter with regards to advising you about application procedure and details about the Diploma of Securities and Portfilio Management course.

I know it is very difficult to choose which University to pursue the appropriate course. I had taken extensive list of Universities that have expertise in imparting knowledge and experience of this particular field. I chose University of Maple after a lot of research. It is a 8 month program which has approximately $10,000 fees. you will learn some amazing skills like analysing companies Balance Sheet, Income Statements, Company Analysis and many more.

I would recommend this University because of their expertize. There are many graduates that are currently working at top positions in the Multinational Companies, which proves how good this University is. On top of this, it provides several amenities like, library access, gym facility, recreational centre, and many more. All the professors are very friendly and helpful. I strongly suggest you to enroll in this University.

The procedure to apply is quite simple, you create your profile on the University website and check all the parameters required to qualify for the entrance exam. One needs to have solid academic track record. Moreover, there are only 120 seats assigned for each academic year, which only brings in the brightest students. Kindly do you own research and see what option suits you the most.

Yours Faithfully,

Winfivn auhcfawei.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0

The letter covers all three bullet points effectively. You provided details about the Diploma of Securities and Portfolio Management, explained why the university is recommended, and outlined the application process. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a friend, although the closing 'Yours Faithfully' is formal and typically used when the recipient's name is unknown, whereas 'Best wishes' or 'Warm regards' would be more suitable for a friend. The ideas are well-developed and relevant throughout the response.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0

The letter is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each focusing on a specific requirement of the prompt. You use cohesive devices such as 'Moreover', 'On top of this', and 'I am writing this letter with regards to' to link ideas. While the flow is generally smooth, some transitions feel slightly mechanical. The paragraphing is appropriate, and the progression of ideas from course details to recommendation and finally to application advice is logical and easy to follow.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

You demonstrate a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey your message clearly. Phrases like 'imparting knowledge', 'academic track record', and 'amenities' show a good level of control. There are some minor spelling errors, such as 'Portfilio' and 'expertize' (should be 'expertise'). While the vocabulary is functional and accurate, it lacks the more sophisticated, idiomatic collocations that would push the score into the higher bands. However, the word choice is consistently appropriate for the context.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are some grammatical slips, such as 'I had taken extensive list' (missing an article: 'an extensive list') and 'Kindly do you own research' (should be 'your'). Additionally, 'I strongly suggest you to enroll' is slightly unnatural; 'I strongly suggest that you enroll' or 'I highly recommend enrolling' would be better. Despite these minor errors, the meaning is never obscured, and the punctuation is generally accurate.
