Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Adam,
I am writing this letter to inform you about the course in which I was registered. The course I took was perfect for people with a finance background.
Considering my history, this course has taken a vital role in my career. This has helped to achieve my desired goals in practicing an accounting calculations and managing clients. Moreover, it will also help to get in-depth knowledge of bonds, shares, insurance, and more.
In terms of the expectations, this university especially offers admission to finance students. Additionally, the placements in the university after studies are the turning point for students to build a career in real-life.
This university offers various other courses as well as multiple types of aspects to study.
It is crystal clear that all admissions are being accepted online through the faculty. There are no walk-ins available to apply; you need to go through the university website for their approval.
Thank you for taking the time to consider my point. Hope to hear from you soon with good news.
Best regards,

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
You have addressed all three bullet points in the prompt: describing the course, recommending the university, and explaining the application process. However, the development of these points is somewhat superficial. For instance, while you mention the course is for finance students, you could have provided more specific details about the curriculum or your personal experience to make the advice more helpful. The tone is generally appropriate for a letter to a friend, although some phrasing feels slightly formal or detached. To improve, try to elaborate more on the 'why' behind your recommendations to provide a more comprehensive and engaging response.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The letter is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each focusing on a specific aspect of the task. You use some cohesive devices such as 'Moreover', 'In terms of', and 'Additionally' to link your ideas. However, the flow between some sentences feels a bit mechanical, and the transition between the introduction and the body paragraphs could be smoother. The referencing is generally clear, and the overall structure follows the conventions of a semi-formal letter. To reach a higher band, focus on using a wider variety of linking words and ensuring that the progression of ideas feels more natural and less like a list of points.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'in-depth knowledge', 'placements', and 'faculty'. There are some minor issues with collocation and word choice, such as 'practicing an accounting calculations' (should be 'practicing accounting calculations') and 'multiple types of aspects' (which is redundant). While your vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning clearly, it lacks the precision and sophistication required for higher bands. Try to incorporate more idiomatic expressions or precise collocations related to university studies and career advice to enhance the quality of your writing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While your meaning is consistently clear, there are several grammatical inaccuracies. For example, 'the course in which I was registered' is grammatically correct but slightly unnatural; 'the placements in the university after studies are the turning point' is a bit awkward. There are also minor errors with articles and prepositions, such as 'in practicing an accounting calculations'. Despite these errors, they do not impede communication. To improve, focus on refining your control over complex sentence structures and proofreading for small errors in article usage and pluralization.
