Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response covers all three bullet points required by the task. You successfully identified the course (Business Administration, supply chain), provided reasons for recommending the university (depth of knowledge, business skills), and outlined the application process. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a friend. However, the development of ideas is somewhat basic. To reach a higher band, you could provide more specific, personal anecdotes about why the university is excellent, rather than just general statements. The structure is clear, and the purpose of the letter is evident from the beginning, fulfilling the requirements of the task effectively.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter is organized into logical paragraphs, with each focusing on a specific part of the prompt. There is a clear progression of ideas from the introduction to the advice and the closing. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and repetitive (e.g., 'firstly', 'after', 'then'). Some transitions between sentences feel abrupt, such as the jump between the course description and the application process. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring smoother transitions between sentences would enhance the flow and coherence of the text.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'Business administration', 'supply chain', 'enrollment process', and 'transcripts'. However, there are several spelling errors ('thesdays', 'upcomping', 'unviersity', 'offical') and some awkward phrasing, such as 'bring your attention towards my course'. While these errors do not impede communication, they indicate a need for more careful proofreading and a wider range of vocabulary to express ideas with greater precision. Focusing on collocations and accurate spelling will help improve your score in this area.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While you successfully use some complex sentences, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with articles ('the university', 'a business'), verb tense consistency ('your are doing'), and punctuation (spacing before question marks and commas). Some sentences are slightly fragmented or lack proper subject-verb agreement. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction and proofreading for common errors like missing articles and incorrect verb forms. Increasing the variety of complex structures while maintaining accuracy will help you achieve a higher band.
