Student answer (Band 7.5)
Dear Himani,
I hope this email finds you well. I'm glad to know that you passed Bachelor in Education with A grade and are planning to pursue a Master in Education. I will be happy to answer all your questions. I pursued Master of Educational Leadership at Trinity Western University in Langley, BC. It was an accelerated program offered for 18 months. The nature of the course is designed to meet the demands of existing teacher shortage in the province.
Trinity Western University is renowned worldwide for its academic excellence and hands on experience programs offered to the students. The institution claims to provide nuanced perspectives about the careers and integrated skills. Moreover, it also has various scholarships for its high performing pupils and to attract and retain the talent facing financial burdens.
Moreover, the admission procedure is quite simple. The university website has a whole tab for new applications. Once you fill that, candidates are shortlisted and contacted after 15 days by the admission counsellor. I wish you luck and a successful teaching career.
Warm regards,
Sneha

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 8.0
The letter successfully addresses all three bullet points: it describes the Master of Educational Leadership program, explains the benefits of Trinity Western University, and provides a clear guide on the application process. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a friend, maintaining a friendly and helpful persona throughout. The ideas are relevant and well-developed, providing enough detail to be useful to the recipient. The response is fully focused on the task requirements, and the structure is logical, ensuring that the reader receives all the necessary information in a coherent manner.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 8.0
The letter is well-organized with clear paragraphing. Each paragraph focuses on a specific aspect of the prompt, which helps the reader follow the information easily. The use of cohesive devices such as 'Moreover' and 'Once you fill that' helps to link ideas effectively. The progression of ideas is logical, moving from the course description to the university's reputation and finally to the application steps. The transition between paragraphs is smooth, and the overall structure is coherent, making the letter easy to read and understand.
Lexical Resource — Band 7.0
The vocabulary is generally accurate and appropriate for the context. You have used some good collocations such as 'academic excellence', 'hands-on experience', and 'nuanced perspectives'. There is a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey your meaning clearly. While the vocabulary is effective, it could be further enhanced by incorporating more sophisticated or idiomatic expressions to reach a higher level of naturalness. For instance, instead of 'simple', you could use 'straightforward'. Overall, the lexical range is adequate and supports the message well without any significant errors in word choice.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 7.5
The letter demonstrates a good control of grammar with a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. Most sentences are error-free, and the punctuation is generally correct. There are a few minor slips, such as 'passed Bachelor in Education' (should be 'passed your Bachelor of Education') and 'existing teacher shortage' (should be 'the existing teacher shortage'). However, these errors are infrequent and do not impede communication. The use of tenses is consistent, and the sentence variety is sufficient for this type of task, showing a good level of grammatical competence.
