Student answer (Band 7.5)

Dear Harsh,

I hope you are doing great on your end .I am glad to hear that you are considering joining the same university as I . I will surely guide you about all the crucial areas you need to consider for your future career.

The most prominent factor when enrolling in any educational institution is choosing the right course, I chose the General Business Diploma.Additionally,it was not only straightforward but also career -oriented .The course covers customer service , accounting, marketing and communication that would definitely assist you in the long term ,whether you choose to work in retail or desire to be an entrepreneur. However , it depends on your interest ,otherwise go for another field that interests you.

Moving further towards why I think you should consider enrolling are the University’s reputation and welcoming environment of this institution, that you might not find anywhere else. Moreover, all instructors are highly educated and have immense knowledge in their field.Apart from this, the tuition fees are also reasonable and you would also get a scholarship that would cover more than 50% of the total fees.

As for the application process, you would not need to hire an agent which would be expensive.Instead, you simply need to go online on the website of the University where you would find the enrolment form under the admissions section, fill that form accurately and submit it within the given time while attaching all the required documents and paying a fee of $25 .

Hopefully you will get a positive result within 10 days after application.

I look forward to hearing from you. If you need any further information do not hesitate to reach out.

Best Regards,

Harneet.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 8.0

The letter successfully addresses all three bullet points of the prompt. You provided clear details about the General Business Diploma, explained the benefits of the university (reputation, environment, and scholarships), and offered a practical, step-by-step guide on the application process. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a friend, maintaining a helpful and encouraging persona throughout. The ideas are well-developed and relevant, ensuring the reader receives comprehensive advice. There are no omissions, and the purpose of the letter is clear from the opening paragraph to the closing.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5

The letter is logically organized with a clear progression of ideas. Each paragraph focuses on a specific requirement of the task, which aids readability. You use a variety of cohesive devices such as 'Additionally', 'Moving further', 'Moreover', and 'Instead' to link your points effectively. While the paragraphing is generally sound, some transitions could be smoother; for instance, the jump between the course description and the university recommendation is slightly abrupt. However, the overall structure is coherent, and the referencing is clear throughout the text.

Lexical Resource — Band 7.0

You demonstrate a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey your message with precision. Phrases like 'career-oriented', 'educational institution', and 'immense knowledge' show a good grasp of topic-specific language. There are some minor issues with punctuation spacing (e.g., 'career -oriented') and occasional word choice choices that could be more natural, such as 'guide you about' which is better phrased as 'guide you through'. Nevertheless, the vocabulary is varied enough to communicate complex ideas clearly without any impediment to the reader.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 7.0

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures effectively. Most sentences are error-free, and your control over grammar is generally strong. There are some minor punctuation errors, such as missing spaces after commas (e.g., 'course, I chose') and unnecessary spaces before punctuation (e.g., 'end .I'). Additionally, there is a slight error in 'go online on the website', where 'go to the university website' would be more idiomatic. Despite these minor slips, the grammatical accuracy is high, and the errors do not interfere with the clarity of your communication.
