Student answer (Band 6.5)

Dear Neha,

I hope you are doing well. I am glad to hear that you want to applying for the same course as I studied at university. I would happy to give you useful advice and share my experience.

I completed my bachelor's degree in Physiotherapy, which was four year course with six month internship. It covered both theoretical and practical subjects, such as anatomy, physiology, neuroscience, exercise therapy and electrotherapy. In addition, this course include clinical training, which allowed me to gain hands on skills on real patients with various health issues. Those skills helped me to develop my professional skills, too.

I want to suggest this university because, it has excellent clinical facilities and highly- qualified professors who are more supportive. Moreover, teachers are always willing to help students when they are confused about some topics and treatment protocols. In addition, universities provide stimulating learning environment which help students to develop both academically and professionally.

As for the application process, I would suggest you checking the official website for the entry requirements and application deadlines. Furthermore, prepare all your academic and supportive documents, transcripts and certificate in advance. It would be great to submit your application early with letter in that explain clearly your interest in this course.

I hope you find my advice useful. Please fell free to get in touch if you need any further information.

Yours faithfully,

Divya Mistry

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0

The response successfully addresses all three bullet points of the prompt. You provided clear details about the Physiotherapy course, explained the benefits of the university, and offered practical advice on the application process. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a friend, and the purpose is clear throughout. The ideas are well-developed and relevant to the task. To reach a higher band, ensure that all minor grammatical slips do not distract from the clarity of your points, but overall, you have fulfilled the requirements of the task effectively.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0

The letter is logically organized with a clear progression of ideas. Each paragraph focuses on a specific requirement of the prompt, which makes the structure easy to follow. You used a variety of cohesive devices such as 'In addition', 'Moreover', and 'Furthermore' to link your sentences and paragraphs. While some transitions are slightly mechanical, the overall flow is smooth and the paragraphing is appropriate for a formal/semi-formal letter. The use of referencing is generally clear, ensuring the reader can easily follow your advice.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

You demonstrate a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey your ideas with precision. Phrases like 'theoretical and practical subjects', 'treatment protocols', and 'stimulating learning environment' are well-chosen and appropriate for the context. There are some minor inaccuracies, such as 'supportive documents' (which should be 'supporting documents') and 'fell free' (a typo for 'feel free'). However, these errors do not impede communication. To improve, try to incorporate more idiomatic expressions or collocations that sound more natural in a friendly letter format.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures effectively. However, there are several recurring grammatical errors, such as 'want to applying' (should be 'want to apply'), 'I would happy' (should be 'I would be happy'), and 'this course include' (should be 'this course includes'). These errors are frequent enough to prevent a higher score but do not cause significant confusion. You show a good grasp of sentence construction, but more attention to subject-verb agreement and verb forms would enhance the accuracy of your writing.
