Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Smith,

I'm happy to hear that you are taking MBA from UBC, which is one of the world's finest universities in the world.

The MBA course is for 2 years include majorily focusing on all major fields but during your last 2 semesters you can choose your field where you wish to concentrate and make a career in that. The first year inlcudes 3 semesters which focuses on management, leadership and business fundamentals.. The second year includes 3 semesters which includes 2 core courses and 1 elective course.

I recommend this university because they provide world class ameneties, like world-class rooms, best cafe's, world-class dormarties etc. Also they provide with best campus recruitment companies where all world class companies come for the placement. In addition they provide scholarship facilities to students who excel in their career.

The course can be applied though online where they gonna check your application and call you for an interview once you clear that you are selected. I can refer you, so you might get some discount.

Waiting for your positive reply.

Your's friendly,

Manu

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

You have addressed all three bullet points in the prompt: describing the course, recommending the university, and providing application advice. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a friend. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the description of the course structure is repetitive and lacks clarity regarding the actual content. The advice on how to apply is also quite brief. To reach a higher band, you should expand on your personal experience with the course and provide more specific, helpful details about the application process, such as required documents or preparation tips, rather than just mentioning an online application.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The letter is logically organized into paragraphs, each focusing on a specific requirement of the task. You use basic cohesive devices like 'Also', 'In addition', and 'The first year', which help the reader follow your points. However, the flow between sentences is sometimes mechanical, and the paragraphing could be more refined. For example, the second paragraph is a bit dense and could be split to better separate the course structure from the timeline. While the progression of ideas is clear, the use of cohesive devices is not always sophisticated, which keeps the response at a functional level.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You have an adequate range of vocabulary to convey your message, such as 'fundamentals', 'elective', and 'scholarship facilities'. However, there are several instances of imprecise word choice and repetition. For example, you use 'world-class' three times in the same paragraph, which limits the variety of your language. There are also some minor errors in word formation, such as 'majorily' (should be 'mainly') and 'ameneties' (spelling error: 'amenities'). To improve, try to use a wider variety of adjectives and ensure that your word choices are precise and varied throughout the letter.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally distract the reader. Examples include 'I'm happy to hear that you are taking MBA' (missing article 'an'), 'The MBA course is for 2 years include majorily focusing' (incorrect verb structure), and 'The course can be applied though online' (incorrect preposition and phrasing). Additionally, there are punctuation errors, such as the unnecessary apostrophe in 'cafe's' and 'dormarties'. While these errors do not prevent the meaning from being understood, they occur frequently enough to impact the overall accuracy of your writing.
