Student answer (Band 6.5)

Dear Nikhil,

I hope you are doing great.

I am writing this epistle to provide you some information about the program that you are thinking to choose at the same university from where i have studied. I have completed my post graduation diploma in the stream of Global Project Management. It was two years of program with the co-op placement opportunity.

The reason why i am recommending you this Toronto University is not only because of the facility and resources they provide but also you will get an opportunity of career placement. Every year the university held a placement program where many renowned organization conduct interviews from the students of the university and mostly 95% students got selected and start their career right after their studies. It would be an great opportunity for you to study from this university.

You can apply for the program you selected in both ways online and in-person as well. Online application is little easier then waiting in the cue and it also save your time to travel to university. you can submit all the required documents through online portal and make payments through any debit or credit card.

I hope you get selected for this program and start your career path through this university.

Yours Sincerely

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0

The response successfully addresses all three bullet points of the task. You provided details about the Global Project Management course, explained the benefits of the university regarding career placement, and gave clear advice on the application process. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a friend, and the purpose of the letter is clear from the beginning. The ideas are relevant and sufficiently developed to meet the requirements of the task. To reach a higher band, you could provide slightly more specific personal insight into your experience of the course to make the advice feel more authentic and tailored.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0

The letter is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a closing. Each paragraph focuses on a specific aspect of the prompt. You use some cohesive devices, such as 'The reason why' and 'In addition' (though 'in addition' was not used, you used 'not only... but also'). However, some transitions are a bit mechanical, and the flow between sentences could be smoother. For example, the transition between the course description and the university recommendation could be more fluid. Overall, the paragraphing is appropriate and the message is easy to follow.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, such as 'renowned organization', 'placement program', and 'career path'. However, there are some instances of unnatural word choice, such as using 'epistle' (which is far too formal and archaic for a letter to a friend) and 'stream of' (which is slightly awkward in this context). There are also minor errors like 'two years of program' instead of 'a two-year program'. To improve, focus on using more natural collocations and avoiding overly formal or archaic vocabulary that does not fit the informal register of a letter to a friend.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors throughout the text. Examples include 'thinking to choose' (should be 'thinking of choosing'), 'from where i have studied' (should be 'where I studied'), 'university held' (should be 'university holds'), and 'an great opportunity' (should be 'a great opportunity'). Additionally, there are some punctuation and capitalization issues, such as the lowercase 'i'. While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and article usage will help improve your accuracy.
