Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The letter covers all three bullet points: it describes the hotel management course, explains why the university is recommended, and provides advice on the application process. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the explanation of the application process is a bit confusing and lacks clarity regarding the specific steps. While the purpose of the letter is clear, the tone is occasionally inconsistent for a letter to a friend, leaning towards a more formal or instructional style. To improve, you should expand on your personal experiences with the course and provide more precise, step-by-step guidance for the application process to ensure the reader fully understands your advice.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. You use basic cohesive devices like 'Firstly', 'Secondly', and 'Thirdly' to signal the progression of your points. However, the flow between sentences is sometimes mechanical, and the use of referencing is occasionally unclear, such as in the final paragraph where 'this app' is mentioned without a clear antecedent. The punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with the placement of periods and commas (e.g., 'Secondly., their are'). Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring consistent punctuation would significantly enhance the logical flow of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is adequate for the task but remains quite basic. There are several spelling errors, such as 'previse' (previous), 'shear' (share), 'becouse' (because), and 'hotal' (hotel), which occur frequently. You rely on simple, repetitive phrasing to convey your ideas. While you successfully communicate the main points, the lack of precision and the recurring spelling mistakes limit your score. To reach a higher band, you should focus on using a wider range of vocabulary related to university life and professional goals, and pay closer attention to the spelling of common words.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The letter contains a mix of simple and some attempted complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text, including subject-verb agreement issues ('their are so many universities'), incorrect verb tenses ('I choose that course'), and missing articles or prepositions. Punctuation is also problematic, with erratic use of commas and periods. While these errors do not completely prevent communication, they are frequent enough to cause some difficulty for the reader. Focusing on basic sentence construction and proofreading for common grammatical slips will help improve your accuracy.
