Student answer (Band 7.0)

Dear Manjot,

I hope you are doing well. I was delighted to hear that you are considering to applying for a course that I have completed at the University of Amritsar, and I would be happy to give you a useful information in this regard.

I enrolled in a course called 'Business Management' and lasted for two years. It involves all the subjects related to business marketing, communication, finance and economics. This program provides students with the strong knowledge of business aspects that helps in future career prospects.

I would highly recommend my university for studying this course because this is prestigious university in our area. The staff is highly knowledgeable and easy approachable. They support students with any academic problems. Moreover, the university provides the placement opportunities to their students, enabling them to thoroughly understand what they learned.

You can apply in the university by simply visiting there or by filling the online admission application form on their website, which I will attach with this letter. Beside this, you can contact the student advisory department to get more information about the available course.

I hope you would find my suggestion helpful. Please let me know if you need any other information.

Kind regards,

Harmeet

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 8.0

The response successfully addresses all three bullet points of the prompt. You provided clear details about the Business Management course, explained the benefits of the university, and offered practical advice on the application process. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a friend, maintaining a consistent and helpful perspective throughout. The ideas are well-developed and relevant to the task requirements, ensuring the reader receives a comprehensive answer to their request for advice. No parts of the task were omitted, and the information provided is logical and easy to follow.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5

The letter is well-organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs for each requirement, and a polite closing. Paragraphing is used effectively to separate the different topics. You use cohesive devices such as 'Moreover', 'Beside this', and 'in this regard' to link ideas, although some transitions could be more varied. The progression of ideas is logical, moving smoothly from the course description to the recommendation and finally to the application steps. The overall structure is coherent and supports the reader's understanding of the message.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'career prospects', 'prestigious', and 'advisory department'. However, there are some minor inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'easy approachable' (should be 'easily approachable') and 'give you a useful information' (should be 'give you some useful information'). While these errors do not impede communication, they prevent the vocabulary from reaching a higher band. Expanding your use of more sophisticated collocations would further improve your score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5

The letter features a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is always clear, there are several grammatical slips. For example, 'considering to applying' is incorrect (should be 'considering applying'), and 'lasted for two years' lacks a subject (should be 'It lasted for two years'). Additionally, 'provides the placement opportunities' uses an unnecessary article. Despite these errors, the majority of your sentences are clear and error-free, and the punctuation is generally accurate. Focusing on verb patterns and article usage will help improve your accuracy.
