Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Neha,
I hope you are doing great. I was delighted to hear that you were applying for Computer Programming course at my university. Since, I have completed this course few month ago, I thought I would share my experience with you and share few suggestions.
To begin with, courses covered wide range of subjects such as networking, block chain, coding and machine learning. Moreover, it also included some group projects and individual presentations, which helped me in improving my problem-solving ability. Also, I completed an internship which gave me practical experience.
In addition to it, I would definitely recommend you this university because lectures are highly supportive by experienced teachers. Furthermore, campus has modern infrastructure which includes digital library, well-equipped gymnasium and a lavish cafeteria.
As for the application process, I would suggest you to fill up the form online on the website before the deadline, So that you can ignore the unnecessary cut-off scores.
I hope this information helps you. Let me know if you need any further advice, I would be happy to help.
Your Truly,

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
You have addressed all three bullet points of the prompt effectively. You provided details about the course (networking, blockchain, etc.), explained why you recommend the university (supportive staff and infrastructure), and offered advice on the application process. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a friend, and the purpose is clear throughout. To reach a higher band, you could provide slightly more depth in your advice regarding the application process, perhaps by mentioning specific documents or preparation tips, which would further develop your ideas.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The letter is logically organized with clear paragraphing. Each paragraph focuses on a specific aspect of the prompt, which helps the reader follow your ideas easily. You use cohesive devices such as 'To begin with', 'Moreover', 'In addition to it', and 'Furthermore' to link your points. However, some of these transitions are slightly mechanical. To improve, try to vary your linking phrases and ensure that the flow between sentences feels more natural rather than relying on a list-like structure of connectors.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'infrastructure', 'well-equipped', and 'practical experience'. However, there are some minor inaccuracies in word choice and collocation. For example, 'fill up the form' is slightly informal; 'complete the application form' would be more precise. Additionally, 'ignore the unnecessary cut-off scores' is an awkward phrasing that does not quite convey the intended meaning. Expanding your range to include more precise collocations would help elevate your score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While your meaning is always clear, there are several grammatical slips. For instance, 'Since, I have completed this course few month ago' contains errors in punctuation and pluralization ('few months ago'). There is also a missing article in 'campus has modern infrastructure' (should be 'the campus'). Furthermore, 'lectures are highly supportive by experienced teachers' is a passive construction error; it should be 'the lecturers are highly supportive'. Focusing on article usage and subject-verb agreement will improve your accuracy.
