Student answer (Band 6.5)

Dear Rohini,

I am glad to know about your enthusiastic interest in applying the Personal Support Worker program from Kaur University, Brampton. I personally recommend you to get enrolled by the beginning of the new year as this is the only when admissions are open for this particular program. Furthermore, the duration of this course is eight months which implies two semesters. For your clarity, there will be placements in second half of the program.

I am familiar with the fact that you get motivated from my achievement after completion of this course. Specifically, in terms of finding the job and lucrative starting pay. Once the graduated student have certificate, it is far easier to evident your academic record which further paves the easy way to get employment. You would be surprised to know that initial offering pay is $25, a way more than the basic pay.

For enrollment purpose, I suggest you to apply online through the University's website because this is convenient method and free of cost. Additionally, you would get the updates on your application on your website portal.

If you need any other assistance, I am always there for you.

Best wishes,

Jasleen Kaur

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0

You have addressed all three bullet points of the task effectively. You provided details about the Personal Support Worker program, explained why you recommend the university, and gave clear advice on the application process. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a friend, being both informative and encouraging. The ideas are relevant and well-developed, providing a clear picture of the course and the benefits of attending. To reach a higher band, ensure that all explanations are fully clear; for instance, the sentence regarding 'the only when admissions are open' is slightly awkward, but the overall message remains clear and the task requirements are fully met.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0

The letter is logically organized with a clear progression of ideas. You use paragraphing effectively to separate the different parts of the task. Cohesive devices such as 'Furthermore', 'Specifically', and 'Additionally' are used to link sentences and ideas, although some transitions feel slightly mechanical. The referencing is generally clear, and the letter flows well from the introduction to the conclusion. To improve, try to vary your cohesive devices further to make the connections between sentences feel more natural and less like a list of points.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'lucrative', 'enrollment', and 'convenient'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'applying the program' (should be 'applying for the program') and 'evident your academic record' (should be 'provide evidence of'). While these errors do not impede communication, they indicate a need for more precise control over word forms and collocations. Expanding your vocabulary to include more idiomatic expressions or precise academic phrasing would help elevate your score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors, such as 'this is the only when admissions are open' (missing a noun like 'time') and 'Once the graduated student have certificate' (should be 'has a certificate'). Additionally, there are minor issues with articles and prepositions throughout the text. While these errors do not prevent the reader from understanding your message, they occur frequently enough to keep the score in the 6.0 range. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and article usage will improve your accuracy.
