Student answer (Band 6.5)

Dear Sam,

I hope you're doing well. I've just got some time to give suggestion for your plan to apply for the course I did at University.

As you Know, that I did my course Master of Digital Media at Toronto Metropolitan University, It was an amazing course, because it covers most of the advanced digital design fields including game design and UI/UX design, In the beginning, I was not familiar with any technologies, but through this course I learnt many creative software's. Moreover, the lecturer's from all the department are very cool and friendly, so if you have any doubts you can ask at anytime.

This University is a public university and it has a strong reputation in Canada, also, after completing this course, you would have a chance to get a job quickly by campus interview.

I know you will 'be confused while applying, I will share the link to apply directly, before that you must be ready with essential documents including your portfolio and educational transcripts.

All the best for your studies.

Best wishes,

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0

The letter successfully addresses all three bullet points: it provides details about the Master of Digital Media course, explains the benefits of the university, and offers practical advice on the application process. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a friend, maintaining a friendly and helpful persona throughout. The ideas are relevant and clearly presented, fulfilling the requirements of the task. To reach a higher band, you could expand slightly more on the specific 'creative software' mentioned or provide more personal insight into why the university's reputation is beneficial, which would add more depth to your response.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The letter is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a closing. Each paragraph focuses on a specific aspect of the prompt, which helps the reader follow your ideas easily. You use some cohesive devices such as 'Moreover', 'also', and 'in the beginning' to link your thoughts. However, the transition between the second and third paragraphs could be smoother. Additionally, some punctuation errors, such as the comma splice in 'Toronto Metropolitan University, It was...', slightly disrupt the flow. Improving the variety of linking words would enhance the overall cohesion of the letter.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'advanced digital design', 'reputation', and 'educational transcripts'. However, there are some minor inaccuracies in word choice and form, such as 'lecturer's' (should be plural 'lecturers') and 'software's' (should be plural 'software'). The phrase 'get a job quickly by campus interview' is understandable but could be phrased more naturally. To improve, focus on using more precise collocations and ensuring correct pluralization of nouns. The vocabulary is sufficient to convey your message clearly, but lacks the flexibility and precision required for higher bands.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors that occur throughout the text. For example, 'As you Know, that I did...' contains unnecessary punctuation and a redundant 'that'. There are also issues with capitalization (e.g., 'Know') and subject-verb agreement. While these errors do not impede communication, they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score. To improve, pay closer attention to sentence boundaries, avoid unnecessary commas, and review basic rules regarding capitalization and pluralization.
