Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0

The letter successfully addresses all three bullet points: it describes the business management course, explains why the university is recommended, and provides clear instructions on how to apply. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a friend. However, the development of ideas is somewhat basic. For instance, the description of the course structure is quite brief, and the advice on applying could be more detailed to fully satisfy the 'well-developed' criteria for higher bands. Overall, the response is relevant and covers all requirements effectively.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0

The letter is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs for each requirement, and a closing. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate different topics. Cohesive devices are present, such as 'As you know' and 'Talking about the university', though some transitions feel a bit mechanical. The flow of ideas is generally smooth, and the reader can easily follow the progression of the letter. To improve, the student could use a wider variety of linking words to connect sentences more naturally.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing the student to communicate their ideas clearly. There are some attempts at using topic-specific vocabulary like 'modules', 'online portal', and 'degree'. However, the range is somewhat limited, and there are minor inaccuracies in word choice, such as 'number one in state' (missing an article) and 'study business' (should be 'studying business'). The language is functional but lacks the sophistication or precision required for a higher band score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The student uses a mix of simple and some complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors throughout the text, such as 'I did post graduation' (should be 'I did a postgraduate course'), 'three years long course' (should be 'three-year course'), and 'pass all the module' (should be 'modules'). Punctuation is generally acceptable, but there are issues with article usage and subject-verb agreement. While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score.
