Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response addresses all three bullet points: course details, reasons for recommending the university, and application advice. However, the response is significantly under the 150-word minimum, which limits the development of ideas. The explanation of the course is very brief, and the advice on applying is limited to a single sentence. To improve, you should expand on your personal experience with the course content and provide more detailed, step-by-step guidance on the application process. Because the response is 35 words short of the requirement, it cannot be awarded a higher band for task achievement.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The letter follows a basic structure, but the paragraphing is inconsistent and does not effectively separate the different points required by the prompt. While you use some transition words like 'Firsty' (a spelling error) and 'secondly', the flow between sentences is somewhat mechanical. The use of cohesive devices is limited, and the overall progression of ideas feels disjointed. To improve, ensure each paragraph focuses on one main idea and use a wider variety of linking words to connect your thoughts more naturally.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is quite basic and repetitive. You rely on simple phrases such as 'get better jobs' and 'give ielts exam'. There are also several errors in word choice and spelling, such as 'Firsty' instead of 'Firstly' and 'busines' instead of 'business'. To reach a higher band, you should aim to use more precise and academic vocabulary related to university applications and career development. For example, instead of 'get better jobs', you could use 'enhance career prospects' or 'secure professional roles'.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response contains frequent grammatical errors, including punctuation issues (e.g., 'huband ,s'), capitalization errors (e.g., 'ucw', 'mba', 'ielts'), and missing articles. The sentence structures are mostly simple, with limited attempts at complex sentences. There are also errors in subject-verb agreement and preposition usage, such as 'apply at ucw in mba course'. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, including correct capitalization of proper nouns and standard punctuation, and try to incorporate more complex sentence structures to demonstrate a wider range of grammatical control.
