Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Aman,

How's everything going!

I was busy for this whole week, couldn't get a chance to write back to you about drafting course that I did in Waterloo university.

This course will provide you a chance to enhance your drafting skills with through exercises consists in curriculum. Always try to clear doubt when you feel perplexed, if you would ignore those, you may end up know nothing.

The better option between college and university is, faculty and infrastructure, so I would advise you to choose university campus, regardless of slightly higher fee.

To apply for admissions, simply go to the university's website and fill the admission form online and and pay the fee. There will be a instruction page given, do follow that it will walk you through each step very clearly and easily.

If you are free on this weekend send me a msg to make a plan to visit Rohit, because he is flying back to home country next month.

Let me know if you need any help regarding admission process.

Stay safe!

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The letter covers all three bullet points: it describes the drafting course, explains the benefits of the university, and provides application advice. However, the development of these points is somewhat limited. For instance, the description of the course is brief, and the advice on applying is quite generic. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a friend, maintaining a personal and informal style throughout. To improve, you should aim to expand on your ideas with more specific details or personal anecdotes to make the advice feel more authentic and helpful, which would better satisfy the requirements for a higher band score.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The letter is organized into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the progression of ideas. You use some cohesive devices, such as 'To apply for admissions' and 'If you are free', to link your thoughts. However, the flow between sentences is occasionally mechanical, and some transitions feel abrupt. The use of paragraphing is generally appropriate, but the internal structure of the paragraphs could be improved by using a wider variety of linking words to connect ideas more fluidly. Overall, the message is easy to follow, but the cohesion lacks the flexibility required for a higher band.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You use a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey your message, such as 'curriculum', 'perplexed', and 'infrastructure'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'drafting course that I did in Waterloo university' (should be 'at') and 'consists in curriculum' (should be 'consists of'). Additionally, some phrasing is slightly unnatural, such as 'clear doubt' instead of 'clarify your doubts'. While your vocabulary is adequate for the task, you need to focus on more precise word choices and natural collocations to reach a higher band level.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'I was busy for this whole week' (should be 'all week'), 'consists in' (should be 'consists of'), and 'do follow that it will walk you' (which is a run-on sentence). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with the use of commas and the unnecessary repetition of 'and'. While these errors do not significantly impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and sentence boundary punctuation will help improve your accuracy.
