Student answer (Band 7.0)

Dear Pooja,

I hope you are doing well. I am very excited to hear the news that you are planning to take admission in the same course that I did at the local university. This is course is very useful for you as you are planning to pursue your profession in healthcare field.

The title of the course is Mental Health and Addiction Worker Diploma. It is a full- time course and contain total eight semesters. There are limited spots available and students are require to clear a entrance exam to get admission at the university. It consist of total eight subjects, for seven courses classes are in person and one is delivered on a online platform. Additionally, you have to deposit the two semesters course fee in advance.

I really like your choice of getting admission at local university rather than moving to another city. Therefore, it will be a great convenience for you to save your time and energy. Moreover, it will also save your money that you will spent on a rental accommodation. I highly recommend you to study the material available at university website to do preparations to clear entrance exam and I also advise you to fill the exam within one week before seats get fully booked. After you successfully pass the exam, reach out to college through a phone call and book an appointment to discuss about your admission.

I wish you all the best for the future. I will catch up with you soon.

Yours truly,

Harnoor

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5

You have successfully addressed all three bullet points in the prompt. You provided specific details about the 'Mental Health and Addiction Worker Diploma', explained the benefits of the local university, and offered clear, actionable advice on the application process. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a friend, and the purpose is clear throughout. To reach a higher band, you could expand slightly more on the personal benefits of the course itself, rather than focusing primarily on the logistics of the university, but overall, the response is well-developed and fully satisfies the requirements of the task.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0

The letter is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs for each requirement, and a closing. You use cohesive devices such as 'Additionally', 'Moreover', and 'Therefore' to link your ideas. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and the paragraphing could be more refined. For instance, the second paragraph contains a mix of course details and application requirements; separating these into distinct points would improve the flow. Overall, the progression of ideas is easy to follow, and the use of paragraphing is sufficient for a letter format.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'pursue your profession', 'convenience', and 'accommodation'. There are some minor inaccuracies in word choice, such as 'take admission' (should be 'enroll in') and 'clear a entrance exam' (should be 'pass an entrance exam'). While these errors do not impede communication, they indicate a need for more precise collocations. To improve, focus on learning common academic and administrative phrases to sound more natural and sophisticated in your writing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is always clear, there are several grammatical slips, such as 'This is course is' (redundant 'is'), 'students are require' (should be 'required'), and 'it consist' (should be 'consists'). Additionally, there are minor errors with articles, such as 'a online platform' (should be 'an online platform'). The majority of your sentences are understandable, but the frequency of these small errors prevents a higher score. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and article usage will help improve your accuracy.
