Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Bhanuja Gabba

I hope you are doing well in your life. I know that you want my advice regarding your future subjects. As I have taken micro-economics and developmental economics in my master's these subjects helped me in getting good package in campus placement.

My course was bit hard to study but if you are interest and you put all your efforts in studies then you won't face any problem in that the course. There are lot of other subjects which will broaden your career domains such as finance, macro-economics, poverty.

I'm recommend these subjects so that you won't face any problem when the time came to search for job. You will get good placement in a good firm along with better package.

There are few things I want to inform you that when you are applying try to fill the form online instead of offline that will save time and energy. You also need to prepare for the interview round along with entrance test. If still there is any confusion or any doubt you are free to ask. I'm wishing you all the very best for future.

Thank you

Tamanna

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses all three bullet points of the task. You provided details about the course (micro-economics and developmental economics), explained why you recommend the university (career prospects and placement), and gave advice on the application process (online submission and interview preparation). The tone is appropriate for a letter to a friend. However, the development of ideas is somewhat basic. For example, the explanation of why the university is recommended is repetitive, focusing primarily on 'getting a good package' rather than exploring the academic environment or campus life. To reach a higher band, try to expand on your points with more specific details or personal anecdotes to make the advice feel more genuine and comprehensive.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The letter is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each focusing on a specific aspect of the prompt. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'My course was', 'There are lot of other subjects', and 'There are few things'. While the progression of ideas is clear, the transitions between sentences can feel a bit mechanical or abrupt. For instance, the jump from discussing subjects to the application process is quite sudden. To improve, try using a wider variety of linking words and phrases (e.g., 'Furthermore', 'In addition to this', 'Regarding the application process') to create a smoother flow between your paragraphs.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'campus placement', 'career domains', and 'entrance test'. However, there are several instances of awkward phrasing and word choice errors, such as 'good package' (which is informal and slightly unnatural in this context), 'I'm recommend' (grammatical error affecting lexical accuracy), and 'when the time came to search' (tense inconsistency). To improve, focus on using more precise collocations and ensure that your word forms are correct. Expanding your vocabulary to include more descriptive adjectives and academic-related terminology would also help elevate your score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors that distract the reader. Examples include 'if you are interest' (should be 'interested'), 'There are lot of other subjects' (missing article 'a'), and 'I'm recommend' (incorrect verb form). Additionally, there are punctuation and tense issues, such as 'when the time came' instead of 'comes'. While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. Focus on subject-verb agreement and consistent verb tenses to improve your accuracy.
