Student answer (Band 6.5)

Dear Aman,

I hope you're doing well. How's your new part time job going.

I am writing to explain you about applying for the same course that I've recently completed at university.

Well, I have completed Master of Management at University of Niagara Falls. The duration of this course is about 2 years including 3 months break from the university. It has total 4 semesters and after completing the 4th semester you'll have to complete a project which will give you real world experience.

However, I would suggest you this university not only because of it's quality of education but also due to it's humble faculty. All the faculty members are so good. They will help you in your studies whenever u ask. Moreover this university is not so expensive. Last but not the least this school is 25 minutes drive from where you live which is quite good.

So for registering at this school you'll need to apply for the offer letter first after receiving it you can carry on further process for depositing fees.

See you soon

Yours lovingly,

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The letter addresses all three bullet points required by the prompt. You provided details about the Master of Management course, explained why you recommend the university, and gave advice on the application process. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a friend. However, the development of ideas is somewhat basic. For instance, the advice on the application process is quite brief and could have been expanded with more specific steps or personal tips to make the response more helpful and engaging. Overall, the task is fully addressed, but the depth of information provided is limited.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The letter is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each focusing on a specific part of the task. You use some cohesive devices such as 'However', 'Moreover', and 'Last but not the least' to connect ideas. However, the transition between the introduction and the body paragraphs is a bit abrupt. Additionally, the use of 'u' instead of 'you' is informal and inappropriate for an IELTS task, even in a letter. The paragraphing is sufficient, but the flow could be improved by using a wider variety of linking words to create a more natural progression of ideas.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'duration', 'semesters', and 'faculty'. However, there are some issues with word choice and collocation, such as 'explain you about' (should be 'explain to you' or 'tell you about') and 'humble faculty' (which is slightly unnatural in this context; 'supportive' or 'approachable' would be better). There are also minor errors in punctuation and spelling, such as the misuse of the possessive 'it's' instead of 'its'. To reach a higher band, try to incorporate more precise and varied vocabulary.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally distract the reader. Examples include 'It has total 4 semesters' (missing an article: 'a total of 4'), 'All the faculty members are so good' (a bit simplistic), and 'carry on further process' (missing articles). The use of 'u' is a significant error in formal writing. While the meaning is generally clear, the control over complex structures is inconsistent. Focusing on subject-verb agreement, article usage, and avoiding informal abbreviations will help improve your score in this criterion.
