Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response successfully addresses all three bullet points of the prompt. You provided details about the AI course, explained the benefits of the university, and gave clear instructions on how to apply. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a friend, maintaining a consistent informal yet informative style. The ideas are relevant and well-developed, such as mentioning the internship and the alumni network. To reach a higher band, ensure that all minor grammatical slips do not distract from the clarity of your points, and try to expand slightly more on the personal 'advice' aspect of the application process to add more depth.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The letter is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Each paragraph focuses on a specific requirement of the task, which helps the reader follow your points easily. You use some cohesive devices like 'Additionally' and 'For an example' to link ideas. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and there are minor issues with referencing (e.g., 'in those university'). Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring smoother transitions between sentences would enhance the flow and help you reach a higher band.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'fundamentals', 'industry ready', and 'placement assistance'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'apply on UBC' (should be 'apply to') and 'in those university' (should be 'at that university'). While these errors do not impede communication, they indicate a need for more precise control over prepositions and collocations. To improve, focus on learning common word pairings and ensuring that your vocabulary choices are natural and contextually accurate.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, which is good. However, there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text, such as subject-verb agreement issues ('This course make you', 'if you required any help') and incorrect article usage ('in the market' vs 'in market'). While these errors rarely impede the overall meaning, they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score. To improve, pay closer attention to verb tenses and subject-verb agreement, and proofread your work to catch these small but persistent errors.
