Student answer (Band 7.0)

Dear Eric,

I hope you are doing well. I am writing this letter to share my advice on the course which I did and recommended university with their application process.

Master's in AI-ML which I did from UBC is really an advance tech-oriented course to do. In this course you will develop your understanding about AI-ML models and tools such as Python, Data Structure Algorithms, and R language. Additionally, there will be a series of assignments to do from real-world during your course which will give you better understanding about the theory.

I would recommend University of British Columbia for this course because they are pioneer in tech segment. UBC not only falls under top 100 university in world but also ranked number 3 for student support and development. As you completed this course, UBC's placement cell will help you from drafting your resume, approaching for internship to local start-ups and last but not least their Alumni club will also help you make professional network in market. All these factors make UBC a perfect place to start with.

In order to apply for this course, you can go to their official website and then new student page. There are a form to fill and few essential documents to submit and then you will receive an acknowledgement of receiving your application. In case, if there is any issue with your application, their admission cell will connect you and ask you for further details or documents.

Please let me know if you need any other information or help related to your admission. I will be more than happy to assist you.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5

The response successfully addresses all three bullet points of the prompt. You provided clear details about the Master's in AI-ML course, offered a logical justification for recommending UBC, and outlined the application process. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a friend, maintaining a helpful and encouraging persona throughout. The ideas are well-developed, particularly the section on student support and career services, which adds depth to your recommendation. To reach a higher band, ensure that all minor details, such as the specific steps for the application, are described with slightly more precision to avoid minor ambiguities.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5

The letter is logically organized, with each paragraph focusing on a distinct requirement of the task. The progression of ideas is smooth, moving from the course description to the university recommendation and finally to the application steps. You use a variety of cohesive devices such as 'Additionally,' 'In order to,' and 'In case,' which help guide the reader through the text. Paragraphing is used effectively to separate the different topics. The flow is natural, and the relationship between ideas is clear throughout the letter.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

You demonstrate a good range of vocabulary relevant to the topic, such as 'tech-oriented,' 'pioneer,' 'placement cell,' and 'acknowledgement.' The language is generally natural and appropriate for the context. There are a few minor word choice issues, such as 'as you completed this course' (which should be 'once you complete') and 'in market' (which requires an article, 'the market'). Despite these minor slips, the vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning clearly and effectively, showing a good level of flexibility.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures effectively. While the majority of your sentences are clear, there are some recurring grammatical slips. For example, 'There are a form to fill' should be 'There is a form to fill,' and 'recommended university' should be 'the recommended university.' Additionally, some phrasing is slightly awkward, such as 'approach for internship to local start-ups.' However, these errors are non-systematic and do not impede communication. The punctuation is generally accurate, and the overall control of grammar is solid for this level.
