Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5

The letter successfully addresses all three bullet points: it describes the Project Management course, explains the benefits of the university, and provides clear advice on the application process. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a friend. The ideas are relevant and well-developed, providing specific examples such as the subjects studied and the benefits of campus recruitment. The response maintains a consistent focus on the prompt throughout, and the purpose of the letter is clear from the beginning. No parts of the task are omitted, and the information provided is sufficient to meet the requirements of the task.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0

The letter is logically organized, with a clear introduction, body paragraphs covering specific points, and a closing. The progression of ideas is smooth, moving from the course details to university benefits and finally to application advice. Cohesive devices such as 'Moreover', 'Furthermore', and 'Finally' are used effectively to link ideas. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct topics. While the flow is generally good, the transition between some sentences could be slightly more sophisticated to reach a higher band, but the overall structure is clear and easy to follow.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

The vocabulary is generally appropriate for the task, with some good collocations like 'highly regarded' and 'renowned companies'. However, there are some minor inaccuracies and awkward phrasing, such as 'faulty staff' (likely meaning 'faculty staff') and 'this jobs' (grammatical error affecting lexical accuracy). The use of 'umpteen' is a bit informal but acceptable in a letter to a friend. To improve, the student should focus on more precise word choices and avoid repetitive structures. The range is sufficient to convey meaning clearly, though it lacks the sophistication required for higher bands.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The student uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'I’am' (punctuation/contraction error), 'this jobs' (subject-verb agreement), and 'visiting to office' (preposition error). Additionally, 'faulty staff' is a noticeable error. While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. The student should focus on proofreading for basic subject-verb agreement and preposition usage. Despite these slips, the meaning is always clear, and the attempt at complex structures is evident.
