Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Simran,
I hope you are doing great. I am very happy for you as you are planning to apply for the same university from where I did my graduation.
My university was Humber at Toronto and I did Computer Science course. The only reason I choose this course is financial securities in the aspects of job because I feel that in coming future I do not need to worried about secure job.
This university provides this course full-time as well as part-time. Moreover, they deliver online classes through their online portal, this make me to get enroll in this institute, also teachers are well educated and very helpful.
It is quite easy to apply here, you just need your proof of address and copy of your passport. Both online and offline applications are acceptable. They will give you one form that requires your personal information, background, and past studies.
I hope this advice will help you to apply in the university.
Yours faithfully,
Parminder Kaur

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
You have addressed all three bullet points in the prompt: describing the course, recommending the university, and explaining the application process. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a friend. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, when explaining why you recommend the university, you mention online classes and helpful teachers, but these points could be expanded with more specific detail to make the advice more persuasive. The explanation of the application process is clear and follows the instructions well. Overall, the response is relevant and covers the requirements of the task effectively.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter is logically organized, with each paragraph focusing on a specific bullet point from the prompt. You use some cohesive devices, such as 'Moreover' and 'also', to link ideas. However, the transition between sentences is sometimes a bit mechanical, and the flow could be improved by using a wider variety of linking words. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the different sections of the letter. The referencing is generally clear, and the reader can easily follow your train of thought throughout the response.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You have an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, allowing you to convey your message clearly. You use some topic-specific vocabulary like 'online portal', 'full-time', and 'personal information'. However, there are some minor inaccuracies in word choice, such as 'financial securities in the aspects of job' and 'get enroll', which should be 'enroll'. To reach a higher band, try to incorporate more precise collocations and avoid repetitive phrasing. The vocabulary is sufficient for the task but lacks the flexibility and sophistication required for higher bands.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'I choose this course' (should be 'chose'), 'do not need to worried' (should be 'worry'), and 'this make me to get enroll' (should be 'this made me enroll'). While these errors are noticeable, they do not impede communication. To improve, focus on verb tense consistency and correct preposition usage. Your punctuation is generally accurate, but ensure that you are using the correct verb forms after modal verbs and causative structures.
