Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Simran,
I hope you are doing great. I am very happy for you as you are planning to apply for the same university from which I did my graduation.
My university was Humber in Toronto and I did a Computer Science course. The only reason I chose this course is financial stability in the aspects of job because I feel that in the coming future I do not need to worry about a secure job.
This university provides this course full-time as well as part-time. Moreover, they deliver online classes through their online portal, this make me to enroll in this institute, also teachers are well educated and very helpful.
It is quite easy to apply here, you just need your proof of address and copy of your passport. Both online and offline applications are acceptable. They will give you one form that requires your personal information, background, and past studies.
I hope this advice will help you to apply at the university.
Yours sincerely,
Parminder Kaur

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
You have addressed all three bullet points in the prompt: describing the course, explaining why you recommend the university, and providing application advice. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a friend. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. For example, when explaining why you recommend the university, you mention 'well educated' teachers and 'online classes', but these points could be expanded with more specific details about the learning environment or campus life to fully satisfy the requirements for a higher band. The response is clear and relevant throughout, meeting the basic requirements of the task.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The letter follows a logical structure, with each paragraph focusing on one of the required points. You use some cohesive devices such as 'Moreover' and 'In addition' (implied), though the flow between sentences is occasionally a bit mechanical. The paragraphing is appropriate for a letter format. Referencing is generally clear, although some transitions between ideas could be smoother to improve the overall flow. Overall, the information is organised coherently, and the reader can easily follow your train of thought from the introduction to the conclusion.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, such as 'financial stability', 'enroll', and 'background'. However, the range is somewhat limited, and there are instances where word choice could be more precise. For example, 'financial stability in the aspects of job' is slightly awkward and could be phrased more naturally. You rely on fairly common vocabulary throughout the letter. To reach a higher band, try to incorporate more specific collocations or less common lexical items related to university studies and professional development.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are some grammatical errors, such as 'this make me to enroll', which should be 'this made me want to enroll', and 'same university from which I did my graduation', which is slightly unnatural. While these errors are present, they do not impede communication. Your control of punctuation is generally good. To improve, focus on ensuring subject-verb agreement and refining the use of infinitive versus gerund forms after certain verbs.
