Student answer (Band 6.5)

Dear Maria,

I hope you're having an amazing day! I was thrilled after knowing that you're planning to get an admission in Bachelor of Physiotherapy course which I graduated last year.

Excitedly, this is a best course that suits you and pursue your career in great height. It's a four and half year course, and in four years you will study human anatomy, physiology and various exercises which help in patients recovery. Also, last 6 months would be internship in hospitals which provide you hands on experience.

Undoubtedly, I would advise you to get an admission in Sardar Patel university because it has well experienced and knowledge professors, and their teaching skills are commendable.

To apply for this course you should fill out form on online and also send to an email regarding your interest of this course. Once you are selected for the course then you need to provide your grade 12th marksheets. After all the process lastly you would require to pay fee which I believe is $2000 per annum to confirm your seat for the course.

How about meeting for a meal this weekend for further talks related to this course?

Yours,

John

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0

You have successfully addressed all three bullet points in the prompt. You provided details about the physiotherapy course, explained why you recommend the university, and gave clear advice on the application process. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a friend, maintaining a friendly and helpful persona throughout. The ideas are relevant and well-developed, ensuring the reader understands the nature of the course and the steps required to apply. To reach a higher band, ensure that all details are precise; for instance, the description of the internship period could be slightly more formal to match the academic context of the letter.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0

The letter is logically organized, with each paragraph focusing on a specific requirement of the task. You use paragraphing effectively to separate the course details, the recommendation, and the application advice. There is a clear progression of ideas throughout the text. While you use some cohesive devices like 'Also', 'Undoubtedly', and 'Once', the flow could be improved by using a wider variety of linking words to connect sentences more fluidly. Some transitions feel slightly mechanical, but the overall structure is clear and easy to follow, which is appropriate for this task type.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'physiotherapy', 'anatomy', 'physiology', and 'commendable'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation. For example, 'get an admission in' should be 'gain admission to', and 'pursue your career in great height' is not a standard collocation. Additionally, 'fill out form on online' is grammatically awkward. While these errors do not impede communication, they indicate a need for more precise vocabulary usage and better awareness of natural English collocations to reach a higher band score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'which I graduated last year' (should be 'from which I graduated'), 'this is a best course' (should be 'the best course'), and 'send to an email' (should be 'send an email'). The use of articles and prepositions is inconsistent throughout the text. While these errors are noticeable, they do not prevent the reader from understanding your message. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of articles, as these are recurring issues in your writing.
