Student answer (Band 7.0)

Dear Rutvi,

I hope you are doing well. I has been a long time that we didn't meet. I heard that you are planning to apply for the same course that I took. Furthermore, it excites me more when I got to know that it is my university.

I definitely recommend you my university for this specific course. I know that you want to study Machine Learning deeply. Our course is completely covers all the important subjects and topics of that. In further, we have intelligent and kind professors who always help us for any queries and doubts even though there is no class. Moreover, our university has attractive structure and interior which you will love the most. Apart from that, the canteen area is amazing where we both can play our favourite game chess and other board games as well. Not only that but also, at back of the college, there is huge trail and beautiful garden where you can spend time to find a peace and enjoy the weather specially in summers.

I would say try to apply as soon as possible because there are very limited seats available right now and do not forget to attach your important documents otherwise, it will delay your process.

Alright, you need more help and information then you can reach out to me anytime. I will see you soon.

Best wishes,

Rutu

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5

The letter successfully addresses all three bullet points: it describes the Machine Learning course, explains why the university is recommended, and provides advice on the application process. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a friend. The ideas are relevant and sufficiently developed to meet the requirements of the task. The response maintains a consistent focus on the prompt throughout, and the purpose of the letter is clear from the beginning. No parts of the task are omitted, and the information provided is helpful and logical.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0

The letter is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each serving a specific purpose. The progression of ideas is smooth, moving from the greeting to the course details, then to the recommendation, and finally to the application advice. Cohesive devices such as 'Furthermore', 'Moreover', and 'Apart from that' are used to link sentences and ideas effectively. While some transitions are slightly mechanical, they do not impede the flow of the letter. The use of referencing is generally clear, ensuring the reader can easily follow the narrative.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

The vocabulary is generally appropriate for the task, allowing for clear communication. There are some instances of slightly unnatural phrasing, such as 'attractive structure and interior' or 'find a peace'. However, the student demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary to discuss the topic, including terms like 'queries', 'limited seats', and 'documents'. While there is limited use of less common or idiomatic language, the vocabulary is sufficient to convey the intended meaning without difficulty. Spelling is accurate throughout the response.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'I has been a long time that we didn't meet' (should be 'It has been a long time since we met') and 'Our course is completely covers' (should be 'Our course completely covers'). Additionally, there are minor issues with articles and prepositions, such as 'at back of the college' and 'in summers'. Despite these errors, the meaning remains clear, and the mistakes do not significantly impede communication. A greater focus on subject-verb agreement and article usage would improve the score.
