Student answer (Band 6.5)

Dear Payal,

I hope you are doing well. I received your message that you want me to help you out in applying for the same course which I had applied for. So let me give you a quick check on my course, basically I have select B.C.A which is Bachelor of Computer Applications. In this course you will learn about coding and some shots of AI. And the university where I have applied this course is Vidhyadeep University which is located at the highway of Kim basically near to the Kim.

Firstly, why I choose university and why I will recommend this to you is, this is the only university giving external option without the attendance system. If we want to do a job side by side we can also do that because we only have to go to the college only when the exams are there. Although the university is providing materials for study during the exams the pdf and all. So it will be easy to manage both career and studies.

Secondly, if you are facing any difficulties on applying online you simply go to there website find the course and you will see apply now option click on that button fill the required details and there you go. Also if you don't want to apply online having some questions and doubts or wanting to know more and gathered information about the college you can also go to the college and meet directly to the admin department they will guide you properly and the staff is so friendly so don't hesitate about asking any question.

Yours Faithful,

Dhruti

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0

The letter successfully addresses all three bullet points: describing the B.C.A. course, explaining the recommendation of Vidhyadeep University, and providing clear application advice. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a friend, maintaining a friendly and helpful persona throughout. The ideas are relevant and sufficiently developed to meet the requirements of the task. The response is well-structured, and the purpose of the letter is clear from the beginning. No parts of the prompt were omitted, and the information provided is practical and coherent.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The letter is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each focusing on a specific aspect of the prompt. The use of transition signals like 'Firstly' and 'Secondly' helps guide the reader through the advice. However, some cohesive devices are used in a slightly mechanical or repetitive way, such as the frequent use of 'and' to connect clauses. Referencing is generally clear, though some sentences could be linked more fluidly to improve the overall flow. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the different sections of the letter.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing the writer to convey their message clearly. There are some attempts at more specific vocabulary, such as 'admin department' and 'external option', which are appropriate for the context. However, the range is somewhat limited, and there are instances of imprecise word choice, such as 'shots of AI' and 'gathered information'. While these do not impede communication, they prevent the response from reaching a higher band. Spelling is generally accurate, but the range of vocabulary could be expanded to include more sophisticated collocations.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The letter displays a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is always clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with verb tenses ('I have select', 'I have applied this course') and prepositions ('at the highway of Kim'). Punctuation is generally functional, but there are some run-on sentences that could be improved with better use of commas or conjunctions. Despite these errors, the grammatical control is sufficient to ensure that the message is communicated without difficulty, and the errors do not cause confusion for the reader.
