Student answer (Band 7.5)
Dear Gandu,
I hope you are in radiant health and best of spirits. I am excited to hear that you are applying to the Artificial Intelligence course in the university. This course will not only provide you copious knowledge about AI but will also open myriad job prospects in the future.
The course has two intakes, fall and winter. The course is four semesters long and there is a break of 15 days after two semesters. Classes will be from 8 am to 12 pm on weekdays and at the end of the course you will have to submit a working prototype of a humanoid robot.
I especially recommend the university for this course because their course curriculum includes practical implementation of knowledge after every semester so that students can learn crucial job-ready skills. Moreover, they also provide a scholarship to those who clears a pre-assessment test.
You can apply directly through their admissions portal. In addition to this, don't forget to also use my referral when applying as they provide an additional discount of 10% to those who are referred by an alumni. I would suggest that you should apply as soon as possible because they have limited seats and this is an in demand course.
Wishing you all the very best and hoping to see you soon.
Yours lovingly,
Achin Pal

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 8.0
The response fully addresses all three bullet points required by the prompt. You provided specific details about the Artificial Intelligence course, such as the duration and the final project. Your recommendation of the university is well-supported by mentioning the practical curriculum and scholarship opportunities. Furthermore, the advice on how to apply is clear and includes a helpful tip regarding the referral discount. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a friend, and the purpose of the letter is clear throughout. All parts of the task are well-developed, meeting the requirements for a high band score.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 8.0
The letter is logically organized, with each paragraph focusing on a distinct aspect of the prompt. You use a variety of cohesive devices effectively, such as 'Moreover', 'In addition to this', and 'because'. The progression of ideas is smooth, moving from the course description to the recommendation and finally to the application advice. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate different topics, which helps the reader follow your argument easily. The flow is natural and the relationship between ideas is consistently clear throughout the text.
Lexical Resource — Band 7.5
You demonstrate a good range of vocabulary, including some sophisticated collocations such as 'radiant health', 'myriad job prospects', and 'in demand course'. The word choice is generally precise and appropriate for the context of a friendly letter. There is a minor error in 'those who clears', where the verb should be plural ('those who clear') to agree with the antecedent. However, this does not impede communication. The use of vocabulary is flexible and shows an attempt to use less common items effectively, which is characteristic of a strong performance.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 7.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures with generally good control. There are a few minor grammatical slips, such as 'those who clears' (subject-verb agreement) and 'in the university' (should be 'at the university'). Additionally, 'Artificial Intelligence course in the university' could be phrased more naturally. Despite these occasional errors, the majority of your sentences are error-free, and the meaning is always clear. You show the ability to use complex structures, such as conditional-like advice and relative clauses, which supports a solid band score.
