Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Gurdeep,
i am letting about Deep University where i completed masters. Now i came to know about you want to enroll in same university for doing masters. This university is more famous in my hometown due to peaceful atmosphere and educated staff along with large library. Moreover, i completed masters in finance there which is two years course and university fees is almost 7000 dollars per semester which is more costly than others universities because this university provides both classes like practical or theoretical classes which is more fruitful to learn about from basic to advance.
This university seats is very limited if he want to admission there, he need to fill form in advance so he can easily enroll into it because it is very necessary to pass the entry exam before enrolling there. I hope you clear the exam if you have any help from my side, i will definitely help to you.
Your lovely,
Gagan

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
You have addressed all three bullet points: the course details, the reasons for recommending the university, and the application advice. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, while you mention the course is in finance, you could have provided more specific details about the curriculum or your personal experience. The advice on applying is clear, but the tone is slightly inconsistent, shifting between addressing your friend directly and using the third person ('if he want to admission'). To improve, ensure you maintain a consistent tone throughout the letter and expand slightly more on your personal experiences to make the advice feel more authentic and helpful.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter is generally coherent, and the progression of ideas is logical. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'Moreover' and 'because' to link your thoughts. However, the paragraphing is insufficient; the entire body of the letter is contained within two very dense blocks, and the transition between the course description and the application advice is abrupt. To reach a higher band, you should use a wider range of linking words and ensure that each paragraph focuses on a single, clear theme. Additionally, the referencing is occasionally confusing, such as the sudden switch from 'you' to 'he' when discussing the application process.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
Your vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing you to communicate your main points clearly. You use some relevant terms like 'theoretical', 'practical', and 'enroll'. However, there are several instances of awkward phrasing and word choice, such as 'i am letting about' instead of 'I am writing to you about', and 'university seats is very limited' instead of 'the number of places is limited'. There are also minor errors in collocation, such as 'do masters' instead of 'pursue a master's degree'. To improve, focus on learning common collocations and phrases used in formal or semi-formal correspondence.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede the flow of reading. Common issues include subject-verb agreement ('university fees is', 'university seats is'), missing articles ('the university', 'a master's degree'), and incorrect pronoun usage ('if he want to'). While the meaning is generally clear, these persistent errors prevent the writing from reaching a higher band. You should pay closer attention to basic grammar rules, particularly verb forms and the use of articles, and proofread your work to catch these small but frequent slips.
