Student answer (Band 7.5)

Dear Julia,

I hope that you in the pink of health! I'm so excited to know that you want to pursue the same course that I did at university. I'm confident that it will equip you with the essential skills needed for your future. I did a 2-year diploma in business management in which I had some core subjects such as accounting, marketing, entreprenureship, strategic management and many more.

Moreover, I would recommend stuyding at Cape Breton University because of its multicultural environment, highly-qualified professors, job placement opportunities and the efficient way of teaching. As this institution focuses on providing practical knowledge along with theoretical knowledge, every student has to complete either a Capestone project or a management-level internship in their last semester. Apart from that, University provides many scholarships to students based on their performances.

As you're visiting Sydney next week, I would suggest you to visit the student information centre for admission procedure. However, an explanatory booklet should be available on the university's website as well. If you need any help filling any forms, I'm always there for you.

I wish you all the best for your future. I can't be more happy for you!

All the best,

Jashan

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 8.0

The response successfully addresses all three bullet points of the task. You provided specific details about the business management course, offered clear reasons for recommending the university, and gave practical advice regarding the application process. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a friend, maintaining a friendly and encouraging style throughout. The ideas are well-developed and relevant, ensuring the reader receives a comprehensive answer to their request. No parts of the prompt were missed, and the purpose of the letter is clear from the beginning.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 8.0

The letter is logically organized with a clear progression of ideas. Each paragraph focuses on a specific aspect of the task, which helps the reader follow your points easily. You used a variety of cohesive devices such as 'Moreover', 'Apart from that', and 'However' to link your sentences and paragraphs effectively. The paragraphing is appropriate and contributes to the overall readability of the letter. The flow between the introduction, the body paragraphs, and the conclusion is smooth and natural, demonstrating a good command of organizational structure.

Lexical Resource — Band 7.0

You demonstrate a good range of vocabulary, including some idiomatic expressions like 'in the pink of health' and topic-specific terms such as 'multicultural environment', 'job placement opportunities', and 'management-level internship'. While there are minor spelling errors (e.g., 'entreprenureship', 'stuyding', 'Capestone'), these do not impede communication. The use of language is generally natural and fits the context of a friendly letter well. To reach a higher band, ensure consistent accuracy in spelling and consider incorporating slightly more sophisticated collocations to enhance the precision of your writing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 7.0

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures effectively. Most sentences are error-free, and your control over grammar is generally strong. There are a few minor slips, such as 'I hope that you in the pink of health' (missing the verb 'are') and 'I would suggest you to visit' (the verb 'suggest' is typically followed by a gerund or a 'that' clause). However, these errors are infrequent and do not cause any confusion for the reader. Your punctuation is generally accurate, and the overall grammatical control is solid.
