Dear .................. ,
Student answer (Band 7.0)
Dear John,
I hope you are doing well. I received your letter recently and was happy to hear that you finished high school. You mentioned you are interested in the healthcare field and wanted to pursue a bachelor's in physiotherapy, which I have done.
Firstly, i have done my undergraduate studies at Lovely Professional University, which provides proper hands-on skills, equipped classes and take students to various hospital for clinical orientation from first year till the end of fourth year of course. You will gain more knowledge regarding different types of patients and diseases.
Additionally, you need to check application requirements from the college website itself. You can then complete the application form online and submit all the required academic documents. If you have any difficulty, I would recommend visiting the administration office for further guidance.
I hope these suggestions are helpful. Moreover, you can always check with me. I wish you all the best for your future.
Best regards,
Tina.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
You have addressed all three bullet points in the prompt: describing the course, recommending the university, and providing application advice. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a friend. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, while you mention 'hands-on skills' and 'clinical orientation', expanding slightly more on why these specific features were beneficial to you personally would have provided a more comprehensive response. The letter is well-structured and covers the requirements effectively, though it remains quite brief in its elaboration of the points.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The letter follows a logical progression, moving from the introduction to the course details, then to the application process, and finally a closing. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate these distinct ideas. You have used some cohesive devices such as 'Firstly', 'Additionally', and 'Moreover' to link your sentences. However, the flow between some sentences is slightly mechanical. To reach a higher band, try to vary your linking words and ensure that the transition between the description of the course and the application advice feels more natural rather than just a list of points.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
Your vocabulary is generally accurate and appropriate for the context of a letter to a friend. You use relevant terms like 'undergraduate studies', 'clinical orientation', and 'academic documents'. While the range is sufficient to convey your message clearly, it is somewhat basic. There is a lack of less common or more sophisticated collocations that would demonstrate a wider range. For example, instead of 'proper hands-on skills', you could use 'practical experience'. The vocabulary is functional and error-free, but it does not show the flexibility required for a higher band.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
You demonstrate a good control of basic sentence structures and your meaning is always clear. There are some minor grammatical slips, such as the lowercase 'i' in 'i have done' and the pluralization error in 'take students to various hospital'. You use a mix of simple and complex sentences, but the range of complex structures is limited. To improve, try to incorporate a wider variety of subordinate clauses or conditional structures (e.g., 'If you were to apply, you would find that...'). Punctuation is generally correct, though the overall grammatical complexity is somewhat restricted.
