Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear rhc,

hope you are doing well, i am very happy because you are thinking to do course that i have done. firstly, i want to let you know that this course is about cookery in LPU university. overall experience is very good fantastic. it took six month to complete. In this course, you will learn every step about cooking and i know you will enhance your cooking skills. the teacher are very talented and their teaching skills are very effective. They teach every single step with deep knowledge.

The reason why i am recommending that particular university is that they focus more on practical rather than theory. Every student get opportunity to show their skills in front of the class. Moreover, the university also help students to get job in their field.

The process of applying for the course is very easy. you just have to do little effort on laptop. first of all, get to the LPU university official website online and you will get interface of the course easily after opening the site.

after that, just select cookery course and upload your personal documents. Not more than ten days, you will get reply from the college through your email. that's it.

i am sure you will do much better in your field.

your hopefully

khush

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response covers all three bullet points required by the prompt: details of the course, reasons for recommending the university, and advice on the application process. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a friend, and the ideas are relevant. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat basic. For instance, the advice on how to apply is quite generic. To reach a higher band, you should provide more specific details or personal anecdotes about the application process to fully develop your ideas. Overall, the task is addressed clearly and the purpose of the letter is achieved.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The letter is organized into logical paragraphs, each focusing on one of the required points. There is a clear progression of ideas from the course description to the recommendation and finally the application steps. You use some cohesive devices such as 'firstly', 'moreover', and 'after that', though some transitions feel a bit mechanical. The referencing is generally clear, although the opening and closing salutations are slightly informal or non-standard. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring smoother transitions between sentences would enhance the flow of the text.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using words like 'enhance', 'practical', and 'opportunity'. However, the range is somewhat limited, and there are instances of word-choice errors or awkward phrasing, such as 'do little effort on laptop' and 'get interface of the course'. These do not impede communication, but they highlight a need for more precise collocations. To improve, focus on using more natural idiomatic expressions and precise terminology related to university applications and academic courses.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with articles ('the teacher are', 'get to the LPU university'), subject-verb agreement, and punctuation. For example, 'the teacher are' should be 'the teachers are', and 'the university also help' should be 'the university also helps'. Additionally, there are missing articles throughout the text. While these errors do not prevent the reader from understanding your message, they occur frequently enough to limit the score in this criterion.
