Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
You have addressed all three bullet points in the prompt: describing the course, explaining why you recommend the university, and providing advice on how to apply. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a friend. However, the development of your ideas is somewhat limited. For example, when mentioning the course, you could have provided more specific details about the curriculum or your personal experience with the modules. Similarly, the advice on how to apply is quite brief. To reach a higher band, try to expand on your points with more descriptive language or personal anecdotes to fully develop the response.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each focusing on a specific requirement of the task. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'Secondly' and 'Moreover' to link your ideas. However, the flow between sentences is sometimes a bit mechanical. The transition between the introduction and the body paragraphs could be smoother. Additionally, some referencing is slightly unclear, such as 'this degree helps me', which could be more explicitly linked to the previous sentence. Overall, the message is easy to follow, and the paragraphing is appropriate for a formal letter format.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, such as 'well-qualified', 'convenient', and 'financial burden'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation. For instance, you wrote 'makes study for interesting', which should be 'makes studying more interesting', and 'froward you the link', which is a spelling error for 'forward'. To improve, try to incorporate more precise academic or professional vocabulary related to university studies and avoid minor spelling slips. The vocabulary is sufficient to communicate your meaning clearly, but it lacks the flexibility and precision required for higher bands.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors that occur throughout the text, such as 'I hope you doing well' (missing auxiliary verb 'are') and 'thinking to continue' (should be 'thinking of continuing'). Additionally, there are punctuation issues, such as comma splices in the first paragraph. While these errors do not prevent the reader from understanding your message, they are frequent enough to impact the overall accuracy. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of gerunds after certain verbs.
