Student answer (Band 7.0)
Dear Candy,
I was really hapy to hear that you are thinng about applying for the same course I studied at th university. I am excited to help you with the details of the course of Forensic Science I took at the university. We studied subjects such as forencsic biology, chemstry, crime scene investigation and psychology. The course included several practical sessions where we learned how to collect and analyse evidence. Although some subjects were challenging, I found it extremely interesting.
I particularly recommend the university because of its experienced professors, excellent laboratory facilities and supportive learning environment. The teachers were always wlling to help students, and the university regularly organised workshops and practical training. Moreover, there were good oppurtunities to gain hands-on experience, which was very useful for future employment.
As for your application, I suggest that you check the unversity's admission requirements carefully and apply as early as possible. Make sure our academic documents are ready and spend time writing a strong personal statement. If you need any help with the application, feel free to contact me.
I am sure you'll enjoy the course as much as I did. Best of luck with your application, keep me updated.
Best wishes,
Prapti

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5
The response successfully addresses all three bullet points of the task. You clearly described the Forensic Science course, provided specific reasons for recommending the university (experienced professors, facilities, and environment), and gave practical advice on the application process. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a friend, and the purpose of the letter is clear from the beginning. All parts of the prompt are well-developed, and the ideas are relevant and helpful. No information is missing, and the response effectively meets the requirements of the task.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5
The letter is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each focusing on a specific aspect of the prompt. There is a clear progression of ideas from the introduction to the course details, the recommendation, and finally the application advice. You use cohesive devices such as 'Moreover', 'Although', and 'As for your application' to link ideas effectively. The paragraphing is appropriate, and the flow of information is smooth throughout the letter, making it easy for the reader to follow your advice.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using subject-specific terms like 'forensic biology', 'crime scene investigation', and 'practical sessions'. However, there are several spelling errors throughout the text, such as 'hapy', 'thinng', 'th', 'forencsic', 'chemstry', 'wlling', 'oppurtunities', and 'unversity'. While these errors do not impede communication, they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score. To improve, ensure you proofread your work to catch these minor slips, as they detract from the overall professional quality of your writing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, such as 'Although some subjects were challenging, I found it extremely interesting.' Most of your sentences are clear and grammatically sound. There is a minor error in 'Make sure our academic documents', where 'your' was intended. Despite this, the grammar is generally accurate, and the errors present do not cause any difficulty for the reader. You have good control over punctuation and sentence construction, which allows for a natural and fluent reading experience.
