Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0

You have successfully addressed all three bullet points in the prompt. You provided details about the 'Computer system networking technicians' course, explained why you recommend Stanford University, and offered clear, practical advice on the application process. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a friend, maintaining a friendly and informal register throughout. The ideas are relevant and well-developed, ensuring the reader understands your experience and the steps they need to take. To reach a higher band, ensure that your opening and closing are slightly more polished and that you avoid minor grammatical slips that occasionally distract from the message.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The letter is logically organized, with each paragraph focusing on a specific requirement of the task. You use paragraphing effectively to separate the introduction, course details, university recommendation, and application advice. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat basic. You rely heavily on simple sentence structures and lack a variety of linking words to connect your ideas more fluidly. For example, the transition between sentences in the second paragraph is a bit mechanical. Improving the use of cohesive devices like 'furthermore,' 'consequently,' or 'in addition to this' would help the flow of your writing significantly.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using subject-specific terms like 'IT sector', 'servers', and 'troubleshoot'. While the vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning clearly, it lacks the sophistication and variety required for higher bands. There are some minor errors in word choice, such as 'there official website' (should be 'their') and 'make them working again' (should be 'make them work again'). To improve, try to incorporate more precise adjectives and idiomatic expressions that sound natural in an informal letter, rather than relying on repetitive or slightly inaccurate phrasing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that affect the accuracy of your writing. Issues include run-on sentences in the introduction ('I hope this letter finds you well it like ages...'), subject-verb agreement errors ('they has good faculty'), and punctuation mistakes (missing commas and apostrophes, such as 'Its' instead of 'It's'). While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on basic sentence boundaries and subject-verb agreement will greatly enhance the quality of your writing.
