Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses all three bullet points: it describes the course, explains why the university is recommended, and provides advice on the application process. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat limited. For example, the description of the course is quite vague, mentioning only 'management and analysis' without providing a clear sense of the curriculum. Similarly, the advice on the application process is brief. While the tone is appropriate for a letter to a friend, the content could be expanded with more specific details to fully meet the requirements of a Band 7 or higher. The letter covers the requirements but remains at a fairly superficial level.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter is organized into clear paragraphs, each focusing on a specific point from the prompt. The use of linking words such as 'Firstly', 'Furthermore', 'Secondly', and 'Lastly' provides a logical structure. However, some of the transitions feel a bit mechanical, and the flow between sentences is occasionally interrupted by grammatical issues. The referencing is generally clear, and the letter follows a standard format for a semi-formal/informal correspondence. The overall progression of ideas is easy to follow, though the cohesion could be improved by using a wider variety of linking expressions rather than relying on simple sequence markers.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks variety and precision. The student uses basic terms like 'good source', 'easy', and 'helpful' repeatedly. There are some minor inaccuracies in collocation, such as 'do that course' (better: 'take that course') and 'apply online form' (better: 'fill out an online application form'). While the vocabulary is sufficient to convey the intended meaning, there is little evidence of less common or more sophisticated lexical items. To improve, the student should focus on using more precise collocations and a wider range of descriptive adjectives and verbs related to academic and professional contexts.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally distract the reader. Examples include 'I am writing a letter to tell you about the course which I did last year it was master in healthcare leadership' (run-on sentence/missing punctuation), 'both of us having more interest' (incorrect verb form), and 'they going to call you' (missing auxiliary verb). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with comma splices and missing articles. While the meaning is generally clear, the frequency of these errors prevents the writing from reaching a higher band score.
