Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Rohit,
Hello! How're you? I'm glad to know that you're planning to enroll in the same course that I did at university and asked for my advice.
I've completed Master of Computer Science Information Technology at Punjabi University, Patiala, which is one of the best educational institutes in Punjab. This course is related to IT and different kinds of valuable concepts are taught to the students. In the meantime, programing languages are also taught to the learners which can be very beneficial for the career option in IT field.
I'd suggest this university to you because of its reputation and an excellent staff. I'd extremely positive experience throughout the course. The tutors have in-depth knowledge regarding each subject and practical classes are also provided to the learners.
In order to apply for this course, you can visit the online website of the university and there you can review all the requirements and documents that are important to enroll in this course. You can also obtain the information about fees structures and the payment methods that are accepted. If you need any other information, feel free to contact me anytime.
I hope this information would help you. See you soon.
Love,
Soni.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
You have successfully addressed all three bullet points in the prompt. You provided details about your Master of Computer Science course, explained why you recommend the university (reputation and staff), and gave clear advice on how to apply via the website. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a friend, and the purpose of the letter is clear throughout. To reach a higher band, you could provide more specific details about the course content or the application process to further develop your ideas, as some points are currently a bit general.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The letter is well-organized with a clear structure. Each paragraph focuses on a specific requirement of the task, which helps the reader follow your points easily. You use basic cohesive devices like 'In the meantime', 'In order to', and 'also' to link your ideas. While the flow is logical, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical. To improve, try to use a wider variety of linking words and ensure that the transition between sentences feels more natural rather than relying on simple additive connectors.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'educational institutes', 'in-depth knowledge', and 'payment methods'. However, there are some minor inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'I'd extremely positive experience' (should be 'I had an extremely positive experience') and 'programing languages are also taught to the learners' (where 'students' would be more natural). The vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning clearly, but it lacks the precision and flexibility required for a higher band score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While your meaning is always clear, there are several grammatical errors. For example, 'How're you?' is informal but acceptable, but 'I'd extremely positive experience' is missing a verb, and 'obtain the information about fees structures' contains a pluralization error ('fee structure'). There are also minor issues with article usage and verb tense consistency. Despite these errors, they do not impede communication, and you show a good attempt at using complex sentences to explain your points.
