Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Tarlok,
I am writing to provide information about the subject and the registration process at the university.
I hope you are doing well. I completed my studies , and now i am looking for a job. You want to take the same subject as I did. I chose human biology. It was my favourite subject in all courses. It is related to human beings. I learned a lot from this . It will teach you about the process and how the body works . Which is totally surprising. I recommend you the Punjab University, which is famous for its research on insulin medicine. Also, last year, it achived noble prize in their researches. Overseas students come to study here. Because it is a world- famous university among all others.
There are two types of admission procedures. First is online registration. Second is face-to-face registration. I will requiment to you to chose second one. Because you can ask any type of question related to your course. Just write me back when you want to go. We will go together. See you soon.
Best wishes,
Kiran Kaur.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
You have addressed all three bullet points in the prompt: describing the course, recommending the university, and providing application advice. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a friend. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. For example, while you mention the course is 'human biology', the description of why it is interesting is quite brief. Similarly, the advice on the application process could be more detailed to be truly helpful. To improve, try to expand on your points with more specific examples or personal anecdotes to better engage the reader and fully develop your ideas.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter is organized into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow your points. You use some basic cohesive devices like 'Also', 'First', and 'Second'. However, the flow between sentences is sometimes a bit mechanical, and the transition between the course description and the university recommendation feels abrupt. To reach a higher band, try to use a wider range of linking words and phrases (e.g., 'Furthermore', 'Consequently', 'In addition to this') to create a smoother, more natural progression of ideas throughout the letter.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You have a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey your message clearly. You use some topic-specific terms like 'registration process', 'admission procedures', and 'human biology'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'I will requiment to you' (should be 'I would recommend') and 'achived noble prize' (should be 'won a Nobel Prize'). There is also some repetition of basic words. To improve, focus on learning common collocations and ensuring that your word choices are precise and grammatically correct in context.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
You use a mix of simple and some complex sentence structures. While your meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, such as 'i am looking' (capitalization), 'I recommend you the Punjab University' (incorrect structure), and 'Which is totally surprising' (sentence fragment). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with spacing around commas and periods. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement, correct sentence boundaries, and standard capitalization rules. Proofreading your work for these small but frequent errors will significantly improve your score.
