Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Sammie,
How's everything going? Mom told me You are planning to do the same course which I did after my bachelors. I am writing this letter to provide you advice on that course. It is a two-year program, known as Business Development. As I did my graduation in the management, this full-time program was the best for me to get additional skills in business studies both theoretically and practically.
University of Waterloo, is one of the top universities, where I completed this course. The reason to recommend is that this institute not only offered proper study environment, but also taught according to the ability of students. The number of students was not that much, one to one discussion with tutor happened easily.
For applying to the university, you have to use your Gmail account Or contact number to create ID on the Official site. After getting login credential, use that for the selection of your preferred course. Firstly, you will apply for the offer letter, then the deposit or other important requirements will take place.
I hope you will understand my all points. Feel free to ask me any help.
Yours lovingly,
Supreet singh

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
You have successfully addressed all three bullet points in the prompt. You provided details about the Business Development course, explained why the University of Waterloo is a good choice, and outlined the application process. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a friend. To reach a higher band, you could expand slightly on the 'advice' section by adding a personal tip, such as preparing for the interview or gathering documents early, which would make the content more fully developed and helpful.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter is logically organized with clear paragraph breaks for each main point. You use some cohesive devices, such as 'Firstly' and 'After getting', to guide the reader through the application steps. However, the flow between sentences is occasionally a bit mechanical. For example, the transition between the course description and the university recommendation could be smoother. Using a wider variety of linking words and ensuring that referencing (e.g., 'that course') is always clear will help improve the overall progression of your ideas.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for this task, using terms like 'theoretically', 'practically', and 'credential'. There are some minor inaccuracies in word choice, such as 'the number of students was not that much' (better: 'the class sizes were small') and 'take place' (better: 'be completed'). While your vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning clearly, incorporating more precise collocations and less common academic or professional phrasing would elevate your score. Your spelling is generally accurate throughout the letter.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are some grammatical slips, such as 'Mom told me You are planning' (capitalization error), 'same course which I did' (should be 'that I took'), and 'ask me any help' (should be 'ask me for any help'). While these errors are noticeable, they do not impede communication. To improve, focus on article usage (e.g., 'the management') and prepositions. Increasing the frequency of error-free complex sentences will help you move into the higher band range.
