Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Heer,
How are you? Hope you are doing great! I’m writing to you to give advice on my course which I’m studying in university.
I’m currently studying in master of management in University of Niagara Falls. As you know I’m interested in Business Business administration and in management related subjects since our school time. So, basically this course is for 18 months. Which gives us best opportunity to achieve our dreams in business related fields. However, it has been 12 months I’m part of this university. I almost completed my 70% study from this place. This is best school for management students because it’s offers our practical learning, multi cultural environment and many more subjects related business. Moreover, we can boost our brain have chance to participate in debate, some weekly briefing programme.
I would like to inform you for that you have to give grammer exam to apply in this university. Like IELTS or PTE. And you have to get require score.
I hope you will achieve a good score and get admission in this university.
I will look forward to hearing from you.
Lots of love

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
You have addressed all three bullet points required by the task. You provided details about your Master of Management course, explained why the university is recommended (practical learning, multicultural environment), and gave advice on the application process (IELTS/PTE requirements). However, the development of these ideas is somewhat limited. For example, the explanation of the application process is quite brief and lacks detail. To reach a higher band, you should expand on your points with more specific examples or personal anecdotes to fully develop your ideas. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a friend, maintaining a friendly and informal style throughout.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter is generally easy to follow, and you have used paragraphing to separate your ideas. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and occasionally inaccurate. For instance, the transition 'However, it has been 12 months I’m part of this university' does not logically connect to the previous sentence. Additionally, some sentences are fragmented, such as 'Which gives us best opportunity...', which disrupts the flow. Using a wider variety of linking words (e.g., 'furthermore', 'consequently', 'in addition') and ensuring that sentences are complete would improve the logical progression of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
You have an adequate range of vocabulary to convey your message, but it is somewhat repetitive and basic. Phrases like 'best opportunity', 'best school', and 'many more subjects' are quite generic. There are also some collocation errors, such as 'give grammer exam' (should be 'take an English proficiency test') and 'get require score' (should be 'achieve the required score'). To improve, try to incorporate more precise academic and descriptive vocabulary related to university life and admissions processes. Your spelling is generally accurate, but the word choice often lacks the precision required for a higher band score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Common issues include missing articles ('in master of management', 'in university'), incorrect verb forms ('it’s offers our practical learning'), and awkward phrasing ('boost our brain'). The sentence 'I’m writing to you to give advice on my course which I’m studying in university' is grammatically functional but could be more naturally phrased. While your meaning is generally clear, the frequency of these errors suggests a need for more careful proofreading and a better grasp of subject-verb agreement and preposition usage.
