Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Juned,
I am writing this to give advice on the selection of a urdu course in the University of Toronto. I have heard that you are interested in a urdu subject that I have chose.
The outline of course include grammer and background history of urdu langague which a I found it tough as I did not have any idea about the background of langague. However, I know that you have basic knowledge of urdu so it would be easier for you.
Additionally, University of Toronto is one of the best university in canada in terms of great teachers and best results. Other than that, they have one campus near by your neighborhood which will be beneficial for you as you rely on public transportation. I would definately recommend you to apply without any hesitation.
Application procedure starts from next month so I would suggest you to apply online on website and scanned documents to upload in advance which includes your last year marksheet and certification if you have any.
I hope this advice helps you to make a decision.
Best regards,
Farhan Khan

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
You have addressed all three bullet points of the task: describing the course, recommending the university, and providing application advice. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a friend. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. For example, while you mention the course includes 'grammer and background history', you could have provided more specific details about the academic experience to make the advice more helpful. The recommendation of the university is clear, but the reasons provided are quite brief. To reach a higher band, ensure that each point is expanded with more descriptive detail or personal insight.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each focusing on a specific requirement of the prompt. You use some cohesive devices such as 'Additionally', 'Other than that', and 'However' to link your ideas. However, the flow between sentences is occasionally a bit mechanical. Some transitions feel slightly abrupt, and the referencing could be smoother. For instance, the transition between the course description and the university recommendation could be more fluid. Overall, the message is easy to follow, and the paragraphing is appropriate for a formal-informal letter.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
Your vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing you to communicate your points clearly. You use some relevant terms like 'application procedure', 'public transportation', and 'certification'. However, there are several spelling errors, such as 'grammer' (grammar), 'langague' (language), 'definately' (definitely), and 'chose' (chosen). These errors are noticeable but do not impede communication. To improve, try to incorporate a wider range of less common vocabulary and pay closer attention to spelling and word forms to demonstrate more precise control over your language.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While you successfully convey your meaning, there are frequent grammatical errors, such as 'a urdu subject that I have chose' (should be 'an Urdu subject that I have chosen') and 'one of the best university' (should be 'one of the best universities'). Additionally, there are minor issues with articles and verb tenses. While these errors do not prevent the reader from understanding your message, they occur frequently enough to limit your score. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and pluralization will help improve your accuracy.
