Student answer (Band 6.5)

Dear Bhawan,

Hello, how're you? I'm writing this letter to give advice regarding the course I completed recently from University Of Nigara.

It's called Cost Estimation and a full-time on campus course. This course has gained popularity because of the demand in market. The duration of this course is one academic year but you'll be having an official drop in which you'd be able to work full time.

Although there are many other universities which offers Cost Estimation course, University Of Nigara is the only one that allow students to have a break in-between two semesters. That break may give you plenty of time to work and earn money to pay your next term tuition fees. So, you don't have to worry about your own expenses.

I would recommend you provide your previous study documents as they show that you have some basic knowledge regarding to Cost Estimation course. Additionally, a reference letter from your college might be useful

for a smooth enrolment process because of the university policies. Just apply online on the university's official website, fill a form and attach your documents along with it.

I wish you good luck for your future and feel free to ask if you need any further assistance.

With regards,

Dharmveer.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0

You have successfully addressed all three bullet points in the prompt. You provided details about the Cost Estimation course, explained the benefit of the university regarding the semester break, and offered clear, practical advice on the application process. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a friend, maintaining a friendly and helpful persona throughout. The ideas are relevant and sufficiently developed to meet the requirements of the task. To reach a higher band, ensure that all details are fully explained; for instance, you could have elaborated slightly more on the specific content of the course to provide a more comprehensive picture for your friend.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The letter is logically organized, with each paragraph focusing on a specific aspect of the prompt. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'Although', 'Additionally', and 'So' to link your ideas. The progression of information is clear, moving from the course description to the recommendation and finally to the application steps. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat repetitive and occasionally mechanical. To improve, try to vary your linking words and ensure that transitions between sentences feel more natural. Paragraphing is used effectively to separate the different topics, which helps the reader follow your argument easily.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'enrolment process', 'academic year', and 'tuition fees' correctly. There are some minor issues with collocation, such as 'completed recently from' (should be 'at') and 'regarding to' (should be 'regarding'). While the vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning clearly, it lacks the sophistication and precision required for higher bands. To improve, focus on using more precise collocations and idiomatic expressions that sound more natural in a friendly letter context, such as 'I highly recommend' or 'the application procedure is straightforward'.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While your meaning is always clear, there are several grammatical slips, such as 'how're you?' (informal contraction usage), 'the only one that allow' (subject-verb agreement error: should be 'allows'), and 'fill a form' (should be 'fill out a form'). These errors do not impede communication, but they do indicate a need for more consistent control over basic grammar. To improve, pay closer attention to subject-verb agreement and the correct use of prepositions. Increasing the variety of complex sentence structures would also help demonstrate a wider grammatical range.
