Student answer (Band 7.0)
Dear Maria,
How are you? I hope everything is going well with you. I'm so glad to hear that you are thinking to apply for same course that I completed at university. I would be happy to give you advice.
I completed a diploma in associate of arts at university Canada west. The course lasted two years and included subjects such as criminology, communication, marketing, political and geography. Course includes both lectures and practical assignments. I found this course very interesting and useful.
I would definitely recommend this university because the teachers are helpful and approachable and the way they teach is easy to understand for people who are not native speakers of english language. Apart from this university provides all the facilities such as library, computer labs and study area. I also believe the environment is friendly and supportive.
For application process, I would suggest you to check the university website first that what documents are required. Prepare your academic documents, English language test. Make sure you submit the application before the deadline. If you need any help you can contact the admission office.
I hope this advice helps. If you need any help with the application process, let me know, I would be happy to help you.
Best wishes
Aman

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5
You have successfully addressed all three bullet points in the prompt. You provided details about the Associate of Arts diploma, explained the benefits of the university (supportive environment and facilities), and offered clear, actionable advice regarding the application process. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a friend, maintaining a friendly and helpful persona throughout. The ideas are well-developed and relevant to the task requirements. To reach a higher band, you could provide slightly more specific examples of the 'practical assignments' or 'facilities' to add depth to your descriptions.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The letter is logically organized, with each paragraph focusing on a specific requirement of the prompt. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'Apart from this', 'For application process', and 'I also believe' to connect your ideas. While the flow is clear, the transitions are sometimes a bit mechanical. To improve, try using a wider variety of linking words and ensure that the progression between sentences feels more natural. Paragraphing is used effectively to separate the different topics, which helps the reader follow your advice easily.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for this task, using terms like 'approachable', 'facilities', and 'deadline' correctly. However, there are some minor errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'thinking to apply' (should be 'thinking of applying') and 'Associate of Arts' (capitalization consistency). You rely on fairly common vocabulary; to achieve a higher score, try to incorporate more precise or sophisticated collocations related to academic study and application procedures. Overall, your vocabulary is sufficient to convey your message clearly without any misunderstanding.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical slips, such as 'thinking to apply for same course' (missing 'the'), 'political and geography' (should be 'politics and geography'), and 'check the university website first that what documents' (awkward phrasing). While these errors are noticeable, they do not impede communication. To improve, focus on article usage (the/a) and ensuring parallel structure when listing subjects. Increasing the variety of complex sentences while maintaining accuracy would help move your score into the higher bands.
