Dear Sana,
I hope you are doing well! I am writing this letter regarding your dilemma about the course, but I am elated that you made perfect decision by choosing psychiatric nursing as your main study.
To commence with, this subject is widely recognized and highly recommended from by professor. This will includes patients cases, careplan, assignments, clinical posting as well as presentation. Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses all three bullet points: it describes the psychiatric nursing course, recommends a university, and provides application advice. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the description of the course is a list of components rather than a cohesive explanation of the student's experience. The advice on how to apply is also quite generic. To reach a higher band, you should expand on your personal experience with the course to provide more depth and 'advice' rather than just stating facts. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a friend, maintaining a consistent personal register throughout.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter is organized into logical paragraphs, each focusing on one of the required points. You use basic cohesive devices like 'To commence with', 'Moreover', and 'Firstly' to link ideas. However, some transitions feel mechanical, and there are instances where the flow is slightly disjointed, such as the transition between the course description and the university recommendation. The use of referencing is generally clear, but the paragraphing could be improved by ensuring that the transition between the course details and the university recommendation is smoother. Overall, the message is easy to follow.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using subject-specific terms like 'psychiatric nursing', 'treatment regimens', and 'clinical posting'. However, there are several instances of awkward phrasing and minor errors, such as 'made perfect decision' (missing an article), 'from by professor' (incorrect preposition), and 'theory part' (should be 'the theoretical part'). While these errors do not impede communication, they indicate a need for more precise control over collocations and articles. Expanding your vocabulary to include more natural idiomatic expressions would help elevate your score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors throughout the text, including subject-verb agreement issues ('This will includes') and missing articles ('two year course', 'apply this institutes'). Punctuation is generally functional, though there are some issues with capitalization and sentence boundaries. While you attempt complex structures, the frequency of errors is noticeable. To improve, focus on proofreading for basic subject-verb agreement and ensuring that articles are used correctly with singular countable nouns.
