Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The letter successfully addresses all three bullet points: describing the course, recommending the university, and providing application advice. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a friend. The ideas are relevant and clearly presented, such as the mention of specific subjects like 'marketing' and 'finance', and the practical advice regarding the online application process. To reach a higher band, the response could benefit from more detailed personal reflection on the course experience rather than just listing features, which would further develop the ideas and provide a more personal touch.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter is logically organized into paragraphs, with each paragraph focusing on one of the required points. The progression of ideas is clear, moving from the course details to the reasons for the recommendation and finally the application process. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical at times (e.g., 'Moreover', 'And'). Additionally, there are some issues with punctuation and sentence structure that occasionally disrupt the flow, such as the run-on sentence in the first paragraph and the inconsistent use of commas. Improving the variety and naturalness of linking words would enhance the overall cohesion.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, with some good attempts at topic-specific language like 'tuition fees', 'installments', and 'white-collar job'. However, there are several instances of awkward phrasing or incorrect word choice, such as 'pursuing to take admission' (should be 'applying for admission') and 'main pacification' (likely meant 'specialization'). The use of 'topnotch' is slightly informal but acceptable in this context. To improve, focus on using more precise collocations and ensuring that less common vocabulary is used accurately to convey the intended meaning.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response shows a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text, including subject-verb agreement issues (e.g., 'tuition fees is'), incorrect verb forms (e.g., 'easily raised a jira ticket' instead of 'easily raise'), and punctuation errors (e.g., missing capital letters for 'canada' and 'i'). While these errors do not prevent the reader from understanding the message, they are frequent enough to impact the overall accuracy. Increasing the number of error-free sentences and focusing on basic punctuation rules would significantly improve the score.
