Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Aman,
Hope you're doing well. I was over the moon when I knew that you're also panning to take the same subject as mine, and I am more than happy to help you regarding this.
As far as my course is concerned, I took computer system technician course at the Toronot university. It had three subject per term, including Linux, Networking, and Operating system. Studying these all subjects provides me hand-on experience.
I would to recommend you this university, as It is located in heart of the downtown. Therefore, you can easily get public transportation for your commute. The most important thing is its staff, all the member of the faculty are amiable and supportive.
The application process is straightforward. I will share you the university official website where you can apply. Their appication fee is 100 dollars and adjustable in your course fee.
Hope you get seat in the university and fulful your dream to study abroad. let me know if you need futhre information.
All the best for your future.
Your lovingly,
Armaan

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response covers all three bullet points required in the prompt. The student gives specific details of the course ("computer system technician course... three subject per term, including Linux, Networking, and Operating system"), explains why they recommend the university ("located in heart of the downtown... staff... are amiable and supportive"), and provides practical advice about how to apply, including the fee and website details. The tone is appropriately friendly and personal, suiting a letter to a friend. The purpose is clear throughout, and the ideas are relevant, though some points such as the course subjects and practical details are a bit brief. Overall, the task is successfully fulfilled, leading to a solid band score for this criterion.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter is logically organised with clear paragraphing, moving smoothly from a friendly opening to details about the course, the recommendation of the university, application advice, and a warm sign-off. Cohesive devices are used reasonably well, such as "As far as my course is concerned" and "Therefore", although some linking is basic or mechanical. Referencing is generally clear, though minor slips like "Studying these all subjects" disrupt the flow slightly. Paragraphs are used sufficiently and appropriately to group distinct ideas, ensuring an overall coherent arrangement that is easy for the reader to follow.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for this general task, attempting some less common phrases like "over the moon", "hand-on experience" (intended as hands-on), and "straightforward". However, there are several spelling and word-choice errors that detract from precision, such as "panning" instead of planning, "Toronot" instead of Toronto, "subject" instead of subjects, and "appication". Despite these noticeable slips, the lexical resource is minimally adequate to convey the intended meaning, and communication is never impeded. The vocabulary choices generally fit the informal, friendly register of the letter.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The response demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, such as conditional and multi-clause sentences ("I was over the moon when I knew that you're also planning..."). There are, however, a number of grammatical errors and awkward phrasings throughout the text, including "when I knew" (when I heard), "provides me hand-on experience" (provided me with hands-on experience), "I would to recommend you" (I would like to recommend), and "get seat in the university". Punctuation is generally acceptable, and while the errors occasionally draw attention, they rarely impede overall communication. The control of grammar is consistent with a band 6.0 level.
