Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear James,

I hope you're doing well. It's been ages since we last caught up. Last Monday, I received a letter from you in which you asked for my advice for the future.

In terms of detial, I recently pass my post graduation with flying of colours in Master's of Accounting from University of lethbridge. My course was very interseting and little bit hard. It's 2.5 years degree and in this degree I learnt many things such as Aduiting, Management accounting, advance tax as well as income statements.

From my perspective, University of Lethbridge has one of the most beautiful campuses. There are multiple facilities, which does not have normal Universities such as playground, big library, REC room and beautiful auditorium. Apart from this, education related serivces are unique for example, if any students don't have the personal laptop then, college staff issue the new laptop.

I really appreciate you because you are thinking about applying in same course, which I recently did. You should apply in Acounting degree via online because they give extra discount from university website it's www.uleth.com. If you apply in-person, firstly you pay 200 dollars then you received letter of acceptance with one week.

I hope you understand how to apply

Yours lovingly

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0

The response covers all three bullet points required in the task prompt. You successfully provided details of your course, specifically mentioning your Master's of Accounting from the University of Lethbridge and highlighting subjects like auditing and management accounting. You also explained why you recommend the university by discussing its beautiful campus, facilities, and unique services such as issuing laptops to students. Finally, you offered advice about how to apply online. All parts of the task are appropriately addressed with a friendly, natural tone suited to a letter to a friend, fully satisfying the requirements for this band.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The letter is logically organised with an appropriate opening and closing, and clear paragraphing that addresses each part of the prompt in sequence. You make use of standard cohesive devices and transitional phrases such as 'In terms of detial,' 'From my perspective,' and 'Apart from this' to guide the reader through your ideas. However, referencing and paragraph links are occasionally slightly mechanical, and there are some minor organisational awkwardnesses, such as jumping between university features and application instructions. Overall, the flow is clear and progression is maintained throughout.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

You demonstrate an adequate and functional range of vocabulary for the task, attempting some less common collocations like 'post graduation', 'income statements', and 'letter of acceptance'. However, there are notable spelling and word choice errors throughout the text, such as 'detial' instead of detail, 'pass' instead of passed, 'interseting' instead of interesting, 'Aduiting' instead of auditing, 'advance tax' instead of advanced tax, and 'serivces' instead of services. These errors are frequent enough to detract from the precision of your writing, although communication of your main ideas is never impeded.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, including conditional structures like 'if any students don't have the personal laptop then, college staff issue the new laptop.' While many of your basic sentences are clear, there are frequent grammatical and punctuation errors throughout the text. Examples include tense inconsistencies ('I recently pass' instead of passed), article misuse ('in same course' instead of the same course, 'via online'), preposition errors ('apply in Acounting degree'), and unnecessary commas ('website it's', 'then, college staff'). These errors require some reader interpretation, placing this performance firmly in the mid-range for grammatical accuracy.
