Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Saad,

Hope you are doing well and many congratulations on your passing the exams.

It was nice to hear that you are looking to pursue your studies in the same subject, i did graduation in.

Accounting and finance course at FAST is very renowned and student learning oriented. there are few things you should know before pursuing the Accountancy Course. it is mostly concept based and some requires alot of hardwork to complete and excel with it later on. in the first year of studies you need to made up your mind for the specialization in Finance field as it will help you in choosing the relevant elective subjects.

The university's reputation is very good for this course and aftwerwards in industry there will be good oppurtunities waiting for you. in addition to that, professors and teachers here are very good and capable.

now when you recieve this letter there might be very less time for application submission so you need to act fast as there are some pre requisite documents that you need to arrange. without that your application may be rejected.

will visit you in University during the winter holidays to check up on you.

If any proble do write to me.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The student successfully covers all bullet points required by the prompt. The letter begins appropriately with a friendly greeting to Saad. The writer provides details of the course taken by mentioning the Accounting and Finance degree at FAST and describing its concept-based nature. Recommendations for the university are clearly stated, focusing on its excellent reputation and strong industry opportunities, supported by capable professors. Advice on how to apply is also included, specifically warning about prerequisite documents and tight deadlines. The tone is consistently informal and suited to a letter to a friend. All parts of the task are adequately addressed, earning a solid Band 7.0 for Task Achievement.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The letter is generally clear and easy to follow, with a logical progression of ideas from course details to university recommendations and finally application advice. Paragraphing is used to separate different points, such as paragraph two focusing on course specifics and paragraph three on the university's reputation. However, there are some minor cohesive issues, such as occasional mechanical transitions and missed opportunities for smoother linking phrases. Punctuation and capitalization at the beginning of sentences (e.g., 'there are few things', 'now when you recieve') are sometimes faulty, which slightly affects the overall flow. Overall, the organization is coherent, fitting the Band 6.0 descriptors.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, successfully communicating the intended message about university courses and applications. The student attempts some less common and subject-specific vocabulary such as 'specialization', 'elective subjects', 'prerequisite documents', and 'industry'. However, there are notable spelling errors ('aftwerwards', 'oppurtunities', 'recieve', 'proble') and minor word-choice inaccuracies, such as 'i did graduation in' instead of 'where I graduated'. The range of vocabulary is sufficient for flexibility and precision, but errors prevent it from reaching a higher band. This performance aligns well with Band 6.0.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The student demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, utilizing relative clauses and conditional structures (e.g., 'if you are looking to pursue', 'as it will help you'). There are several grammatical errors and punctuation issues throughout the text, including lowercase letters at the start of sentences, missing articles, and awkward phrasing such as 'some requires alot of hardwork' and 'If any proble do write to me.' Despite these errors, communication is not impeded, and the meaning remains clear. The control of grammar corresponds to a Band 6.0.
